  • I know plenty of people who have been unluck enough to have their bikes stolen (one 5 hours after buying it!), and on a few occasions they have been able to get them back from Brick Lane (which has already been suggested) at the weekend, although they have been forced to BUY it back.

The other place to try is http://www.gumtree.com I have been looking for a good secondhand road bike for a while, and most of the adverts i have called about are clearly for stolen bikes, so i have told them where to stick it. I know all these things are a long shot, but it seems that when a good quality bike is stolen they are wise to the fact they can get better money for it, and so seem to take their chances more with an ad online.

Unfortunately the police couldn't give a monkeys about recovering stolen bikes, such is the level of theft in this town, and even if there is a CCTV camera pointing at wher it was stolen from, they won't even check the footage.
