  • Imagine if FGSS had it's own frame! Or it's own bike!
    What would it look like?
The best bits from each frame builder etc?
The perfect frame and what parts?
    Pics would be good.

  • If you put everything into a huge melting pot, wouldn't you end up with a big loump of metal, smelling of burnt rubber?
    :D

    I'll get my coat.

  • Or that picture of the Robin Mather that keeps turning up!

Yeah...I think it would look similar to this. That's certainly how I look when I'm on the road! ;-)

    lolz

  • There is no ultimate bike.. there are only more cool bikes for different purposes..

n + 1 = the number of bikes you should own, where n is the number you currently own.

  • it's the same for guitars.

    This is totally true.

Well, I understand that people need to say that to help them cope with the fact that they don't own my Serotta.

Agreed. But does that mean you'll ever be satisfied? Once you get what you want something else comes along...
So basically there's no such thing as the perfect bike 'cause it's only perfect if you really want it and can't have it.
I will say there's definitely an addiction with the whole bike thing.

  • I hit 11 in Oz and only stopped because I came over here. I've now got 4 new ones here... it's an addiction for sure.
Trouble is I live in a studio with gf here whereas back home had a massive double unit with garage. Space can have advantages!

  • This is my "Ultimate" bike (affordable though, as I don't dream much)....

I suppose we all have an "affordable Ultimate bike", and a" money-no-option Ultimate bike" in mind.

  • From the depths!

  • Richie, you know you're relative of Nessie, so the depths should be just fine.

But seriously, the thread need a year and a half's rest.

    :))

stop making lists and make your own bike

  • Don't make me start a longest seatpost list mate!

  • Hey flickwg, serious question:

Do the old-school forumengers really respect people more, because they chose to build a bike from frame up, instead of buying an OTP?

  • The ultimate LFGSS bike would be a collaboration with Paul Smith and Rapha.

    That's a thread on it's own.

I think respect comes from people doing their own maintenance and taking an interest in the machines themselves... not whether the bike is an OTP or custom.

If anyone felt like that I'd tell them to fuck off and never trouble me with a comment about lemmings again.

  • Hmm...
Ridiculously intricate steel (531) carved lugs
531 tubing inside carbon fibre tubing (for ultimate awesomeness)
Carbon fibre steel (531) lugged fork w/ some added Titanium for added Awesomeness
Velocity/ Hed/ Aerospoke/ H+Son collaboration rims on Phil hubs (Titanium of course)
    White tyres
Charge Spoon saddle re-covered with chopped Brooks leather
Risers so short they're not actually there on an obscure Nitto NJS stem (531)

    No brakes... obviously

Oh... and a limited edition Hippy signature model holographic/ sparkle WAC sticker

    :D

  • the ulitmate wouldn't be a bike, it would simply be a frame and then we simply build it up the way we want it.

  • If could build just one ultimate track bike (for road use).

British handmade frame with pretty hand cut lugs. Nice italian components.

If I could build just one ultimate SS MTN bike.

American handmade titanium frame (rigid 29r). Titanium finishing kit (H bars a must) with Chris king components.

If I could build my ultimate road bike.

I'd have a Colnago with one of those over the top paint schemes.

I could do this all day......

  • Colnago C50 Pista
Zip 404 Track Wheels + Conti Tubs
    FSA Carbon Cranks
Easton Carbon Track Bars and Stem
    Easton Carbon Post
    FSA Arione K1 saddle
    Pedals and Chain. (Anything good)

  • The ultimate LFGSS bike would be a car.
