I like lycra. Does the job well. It keeps you cool on hot days, warm on cold days, wicks away sweat and light rain, smells fresh after a long ride, is comfortable and doesn't catch on the saddle like looser clothing can. It just works.
I ride lycra all the time, though in the city I wear Chrome or Rapha shorts on top. If I know I'm doing more than around 50 miles, I forego any outer layer that would make me fit into a pub easier and just go full lycra. On-bike comfort is a higher priority than looks for me.
