Depends what you are doing i suppose, i'd feel a bit embarrassed going somewhere on my bike then getting off and wandering around in lycra, but its fine underneath trousers.
-
• #3
a bit???
-
• #4
i would never wear it on it's own, only under baggys, but i'm not a roadie so i have no reason to wear it.
-
• #5
a bit gay?
it's positively homo.
long distance and competetive roadies only, but then these people shave their legs

guys i dunno if it's that gay...i'd say the cycling graphic designer look is a little more gay that the lycra look BUT, wearing lycra in public places is a bit......you know?
i'm only sayn this coz i've liked my heavy metal in my life so if i'm not cycling a long distance i'd be wearing tigh ass jeans.
Pink t-shirts are gay -

Lycra - a bit gay? you betcha.
Does anyone else get a buzz from flying past lycra clad folks on fancy bikes in a pair of scraggy shorts and a T-shirt with the feet whizzing round on the brink of control? I do :D

its even better wearing a camelback too :-)

hippy It could be.. but you'd have to ask my girlfriend. :P
I shave and wear full lycra and yet I think pink t-shirts are gay.
I don't really care. You can call me a poof when you meet me.. then we'll see how fast you are in baggy's.. :)not 'gay' in the way of the 'crafty butcher'
but gay as in fruit teas & ciabatta sandwiches
btw pink T-shirts are 'ghetto'

Even better when they are on their mountain bikes in the city. Don't even have to break a sweat passing them.

Yeah
I bet in two years time people will be asking if riding fixed is "a bit gay" :)
I would wear lycra. If i was cycling 100 miles and I actually had any, but I don't. I have no idea why anyone would wear it round town.
-
• #18
Habit, comfort and training/racing straight after work.
-
• #19
In genral round town can't see the point espcially if your ride is short. However not every one lives in Hackney, I have met people that ride in from zone 5 and 6 (talking about 20 miles one way) so you would be changing your cloths when you get to work so may as well wear the best stuff for the job.

is lycra better for your 'bits'...? I just thought it dried out faster in the rain
I used to courier all day in jeans didn't seem to bother me
-
• #21
Yes. I swore I'd never wear lycra but there comes a point where 'undies' do more harm than good.
For me, that point was about 80k rides in Aussie heat. I've been a lycra lout since so now it's just habit to wear it.
If I'm going somewhere where 'normal' appearance is useful I may wear it under jeans or shorts but I usually sweat so much riding that I may as well walk/tube it if that's the case! If I'm rolling down the hill to the shops I'll not bother but 95% of my commutes are in lycra. If I make it to the Southend ride I promise I won't scare you all - I'll wear something over my knicks! :P
(I'm actually waiting for some shy shorts to be delivered - not sure if they'll arrive before then) -

I've never riden in it because the most I ever do in a day is about 50 miles (in short stints and rearly) but people would not wear it unless it was good. You don't see these 400 km Audax guys and girls in jean and audax rides seem to be all about praticality nowt to do with trends, roady style or urban style.

I would geuss that most courier work is short stints, even if you do 70 miles in a day not really in the saddle for 3 hr solid, more ride for a few miles off for a bit into an office repeat type thing meaning that jeans are less of a problem. This is a geuss like I said so correct me if I am wrong.

is lycra gay? no it just looks rediculous on almost every-one.
yet again so do cycleing caps...
i do enjoy passing people who probly spent more money on their outfit then i did on my bike, and yelling 'want to race?'
-
• #24
I have a GIOS cycling cap, it is without doubt the gay'ist thing I own, I don't know what possessed me to buy it, I leave it by the front door, I put it on, look in the mirror, CRINGE, and there it stays by the front door ....actually I have a bad habit of buying this kinda crap on ebay

when I was a courier, I was given some lycra shorts to try out, I wore them for a few days, them office birds, they just kept on staring at my (not insignificant) bulge, I'd blush, they would giggle, I really bloody BLUSH, they would laugh, I couldn't handle it, it did my nut in
I notice the 'american' style is all the rage these days
3/4 length pants, sidi's, a T-shirt and a little Italian riding cap
(I draw your attention to this public school boy)
You know the kinda thing
So does that mean that city based lycra wearing have now been outed
as being a bit 'suspect'
