Is it a steel frame?
-
• #3
cable guides. and yes they can be hacksawed/sanded/dremel'd off. but you have to be careful on some frames. i've heard stories of holes beneath the stops (on fgg i think). then repaint and bobs your uncle.

as roberto says, is it steel. i was kinda asuming it would be.
-
• #5
yeah it is steel, thanks. i think the frame would look so much better without them

Some lightweight steel tubing goes as thin as 0.4mm, so you can easily damage a decent frame. You can get a framebuilder to remove them. They just heat them up til the braze softens.

there was some conversation on fixedgeargallery about classic frames being wrecked by people taking of the braze ons off. the gradual fixification of old colnago / cinelli frames leaving very few original bikes out there with their durallier hangers cable guides etc
if it's a classic / nice old frame it might be worth putting up with those bits

nice.
A friend of mine recently rescued a Claud Butler 5 speed from his dad's garage, also has really lovely lugs…
it sounds really stupid but what are the metal ring things on a standard frame that guide the brake cables and is there a way in removing them??
