I have not used clips and straps for years but when I did (on an mbt) I loved these. Can't rember the exact name I thought airwalk ones but could only find them on a french site.
Not too puffy and big and the laces did not seem to get caught up in the clip, maybe that was luck though.

i used to wear some old combat boots, but they ripped, now i wear some plimsals beacuse they are cheep, the straps cut the outer layer of one shoe when i didnt slip it in all the way

I've got size 11's too, and i wear nike air forces, the high-top version. They're nice a chunky with a stiff sole.

i've got a bit of a thing for these shoes.

these?

I've just got myself some adidas goal hunters.
Ridden 'em 2-3 times and so far no complaints. Slip in and out easily (oo-er!) and a little more rigid than the all-stars I was rocking until recently. -

oooo!
nice big toecap, is the leather pretty thick?
cos they look ideal
-

It's not THAT thick still a little 'squishy' for want of a better word, but like I said a lot better than the canvas I was riding in before.

i like them nikes, rpm. These are what MKS Track pedals are doing to my shoe sole. I think i'll get slightly wider pedals next time.
-
• #11
yeah..
hmm,
why the fuck doesn't someone make a shoe for these pedals?
there's enough pedals still being sold for use with clips and straps, where are the specific shoes?
-
• #12
haha, yeah damnham and myself were asking ourselves the very same question the day I got those adidas.
-
• #13
hi-tec squash all the way! honest!
narrow, retro and super cheap.

why the fuck doesn't someone make a shoe for these pedals?
Probably because the cleats, which are necessary for clips and straps to be at all effective, fit standard bolt patterns and so you can use road shoes designed for cycling.
-
• #15
what cleats?
you mean spd shoes designed for clipless pedals?that's my point, those ballet shoes are no use to me.
and you mean that clips and straps are not effective on pedals designed for them?

I mean that pedals with clips and straps are designed to be used with special cleats and with shoes that have these cleats on the bottom, not with trainers. The cleats fit behind the back plate of the pedal and stop your foot sliding out backwards. This allows the back and up part of the pedal stroke to be used properly, but make it a real bitch to get out of the pedals in a hurry. That's why clipless pedals were invented - much better ability to use the whole pedal stroke and easy to get your foot out quickly. Clipless pedals are basically better than clips and straps for almost everything, although some track sprinters still use straps to add security when sprinting.
If you wanna use clips and straps on the street with trainers then you should accept that you won't get such good power transfer and that they won't be that comfortable. Double straps make things better but are expensive.
You might wanna look at mountian bike shoes and clipless pedals - some of the shoes don't look so space age (although none look particularly cool) and the cleats are recessed so you can walk in them.

Yeah I think he means the duck shoes with the duck shoes with the cleats like this.

Yeah that's it. Also look at some of the photos here to see some of the newer ones designed to be used with MKS pedals http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/reviews/pedals/ Check out the RX-1 Gold pedal photo and the bottom montage.

I am sure vans or airwalks will see the opertunity soon enough.

I want clip-pedal shoes but i'm so scared of being attached to my bike in a crash. For some reason, tight-as-you-like straps on me don't have the same effect (?). I'm sure someone could fit a cleat to some trainers, though. Sort of, stick it on there ...

lpg im the other way round, i know from experience that my feet just unclip if i come off, but riding with clips and straps im scared my feet will never come out.

Bringing this thread back from the depths, I recommend Vans AV ERA. The toe design means they slip into clip really easily, and wearing them for a 25 minute ride this morning in the rain, even in the knackered old pair my mate gave me, my feet were still dry at the end (rest of me wasn't!).

Managed to get some ALIFE shoes in a sale in NYC for £20 a pair. They had some that were leather/suede with a totally flat sole. Would be perfect for clips/straps.
Think Adi did some messenger-style shoes with hard sole for clips and straps. I'll have a trawl.
fuck off, this thread is over two years old
