Alrighty there.
I am on Mavic open pros. They work well for me. Can't say much more than that. I over built my wheels as I ordered a 36 hole rear hub but even after some big hits where pot holes have apeared after big storms they are still running true. Like I said though 36 spoke so they should be all good. .My wheels do not feel particuarly quick when accelorating though, but I am not particually fast:). I built with durability and price in mind.
The Ambrosio's rims look well speced and more astheticaly pleasing though they are a bit heavier.

Mmmm... aesthetically pleasing... drool.
I'd have to have them in silver. Shame most rims are only available in anodised, it'd be lovely to have some chrome rims gleaming away on a sunny day.
The hubs are 32h. Also a bit overkill, but Oxford Street has a few potholes that give me the heebie jeebies so anything that gives me confidence enough to take decisive action when I spot one, and also for it not to be the end of the world when I hit one... well it's got to be worth it.

Of course Velocity's come in colours... and that's always tempting:
This is what it looks like at the moment (imagine it all being dirtier):

i've been on the look out for some deep-v's but can't find them anywhere - where did you get yours and how much?

I got Ergott of Ergott Wheels to make mine, they weren't too bad on cost (though I can't recall how bad the tax was when they came through customs):
http://www.ergottwheels.com/You can buy them individually through Bike Works NYC too:
http://www.bikecult.com/works/parts.htmlAnd from Peter White:
http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/velocity.aspI don't know where you could get them in London, I didn't actually realise you couldn't!

I'm using the Ambrosio FCS28s on Phil High-Flanges. They ride well, and look nice, too. Not the lightest or cheapest, but.
The only thing that really bothers me about them is that the spoke holes aren't eyeletted/reinforced on the inside. So I'm not sure how long they'll last before cracking.

:D
That's encouraging! I haven't yet broken any rims, just worn them out ;)
How many miles have you put into yours Tom?
My Deep V's have taken a couple of thousand, and whilst I think they've got thousands more in them (they're still perfect) I'm only building new wheels because I screwed up at order time (confusion between myself and two providers) and managed to end up with 130mm rear axle jammed into a 120mm space. I saved money first time round, this time around I'm looking for a smoother and faster ride.

If you fuckers want Deep-V's I can get some shipped over to you come summer time. I'm back in the states now.

Hi all,
I ride on DT Swiss RR 1.2's (with all the stickers taken off as they are too bling in my opinion and i like the understated look) Hubs are Condor tapered specials and are absolutely lovely....as good as Phil Woods in my opinion.
Check them out! Just arrived at the store in London. I was one of the fist to ride with them. Spokes are DT swiss too.
DT swiss are here: http://www.dtswiss.com/index.asp?fuseaction=rims.bikedetail&id=16 -

I've put about 2-3000 miles on them. So far so good, and not needed much in the way of re-truing.

Another question for mr_tom... are the decals on the Ambrosio's stickers? Are they removable?
If so, I think that gets it.
The DT Swiss RR 1.2's are gorgeous, but I'm really taken by the knife edge look of the Ambrosio's.

Pretty deep V on the DT swiss also....
This is my baby....(pre sticker removal)Cant seem to load an image....how do i do this?

are the decals on the Ambrosio's stickers?
Yeah, they come off. The matte-black underneath is nice.
I got mine on order from Condor for about £50 a throw, I think.
They're not quite as deep as Velocities, but they're staying nice and round...

I dropped by Brick Lane Cycles on Bethnal Green road last week and saw they had a few 700c Deep Vs in various colors displayed in their front window. Not sure how much they are though but worth checking out...

Mavic CXP-33s are a good alternative to Deep Vs. Not as sexy, very limited colour options but they work really well as a street/velodrome rims.
BTW you can the Deep Vs without machined sidewalls, which look great if you're a brakeless rider. Pretty heavy rims for the 'drome though.

My first fixedwheel set I bought were Velocity deep Vs, on Goldtech hubs, 2nd hand at a Herne Hill bike jumble £30. result
The rear rim split after 5000 miles the front and both hubs are still going and have done 10,000 miles plus
as said 53 x 12 do them in the UK

Right, I'm down to either the Mavic CXP 33's or the Ambrosio deeps (can't remember the bloody product name and it's gone and changed since last year and they don't update their website).
Are the Mavic Rims as awesome as their popularity suggests?
If so, the sheer lack of good information on the Ambrosios will lead me to take the Mavics.

Have you found somewhere selling the mavics velocity boy, because as far as i know they are out of production, and difficult to source now.
I've a bright yellow Bob Jackson and am in the process of acquiring the bits to rebuild my wheels nice and new.
I've gone all pimp for the hubs, and ordered some Phil Woods from the US. What rims should I lace these to?
Current hot contenders are:
[/list]
I'm leaning towards the Ambrosio's but know no-one who has ridden a pair. The Open Pro's seem great bang for the buck, everyone is riding them. Velocity's are what I rock now, but they're a little dead in the ride (my comparison are Fulcrum Racing 1's on my geared bike, lively and quick wheels).
Any thoughts? What rims are you riding?
