• the narrowness of the space/proximity of the corners can’t help much. speakers are rear ported plus a sub, i’m guessing there’s a room boom at a certain frequency helping to muddle things up.

    I would buy a decent pair of headphones...

  • Weirdly, there's not much of an audible room boom. The sub helped in this regard - with just speakers alone it's a more muddy sound. The low pass filters in the amp must be doing the right thing.

    I do have some decent headphones, but some days have been +35°c so it gets hot on the ears.

    I'll investigate the room treatment, thanks. The speakers are sitting on some heavy rubber tiles and there's little resin feet on the speaker base. They're isolated fairly well.

  • Have you tried the speakers in a bigger room / free space? Not sure what you'd learn but I'd be curious.

  • I would raise the speakers so the tweeters are level with your ears, would also mitigate some of the reflection from the desk surface.

    Edit: Would moving the desk to the wide wall be an option?
