I've kept the subscription going, because of their legacy pricing and because I think it is pretty good for just doing intervals instead of gamified shite. But I have hardly used it for ages.
I don't touch the turbo in the summer but I quite like having a programme set up for the winter - so thanks for prompting me to set it up for this winter! I only ever do a couple of the workouts per week, then other rides. I normally just do the mid-vol nowadays - as midweek turbo sessions are a pain to fit in if they go much beyond an hour - and top up with other rides.
I'm thinking of doing some indoor racing instead of the odd workout as the Westerley guys are big into that. It's basically intervals. It is potentially a bit more fun but not ideal as the intervals, and the session durations, are a bit too short / high intensity.

I think I opted to pay more but stuck with monthly, with the idea that I'd turn it off when during and after big rides. It didn't quite happen so I've just spunked £40 for nothing, hence the email.
I got into the habit during Covid. I was already working from home but that just solidified me not going outside, so I was doing lots of volume indoors. Now I'm going for tiles at lunch time I'm less interested in adding turbo volume. Perhaps if I had a race planned I'd probably try out a Masters plan (I tended to add/remove workouts a lot myself anyway) and keep tile bagging for the easier days.

Don’t suppose anybody has got a free month with Trainerroad they’d be willing to share with a poor freelancer who’s gone into the new year with no cash please?
-
• #1680
Possibly, how do I find it? Or would it be emailed to me??
-
• #1682
You should pair up with someone else.
1 person does the interval days and the other person does the rest days :)
-
• #1683
I’d pay if I got the benefit of the rest recovery days lol

Ahhh thanks.
I’ve got a Rouvy code but it nearly made me smash my laptop in frustration.
-
• #1685
They used to send them out regularly but sounds like it’s a thing of the past. I’ll just use the forbidden emergency credit card.

Rouvy is indeed a massive PITA. EVERY TIME there's an app update you have to login from scratch again being just one frustration. That said, I persevere as at least looking at some nice scenery in the sunshine cheers me up as I suffer in the depths of winter.

Am I the only one continuing to pay for my TR subscription just in case I find the time and energy to hop on the trainer when I've actually not been on it since October?
-
• #1688
I use TR about four or five days a week. Just had a three week hiatus with the flu and in general my only breaks are travelling or illness. But I am a cheapskate who wants vfm!

I did this for a year and then worked out how much it had cost me!
Anyway, now there is TrainerDay which is basically the Aldi/Temu version.

No.
I was 100% this. This week I've actually started riding it again but Jul, Aug, Sep were empty and I think I did about an hour in Oct/Nov and again in Dec. I've got no racing on the calendar, I'm still doing shoulder rehab so I'm struggling to find motivation to 'train' for anything.
But I'm grandfathered in pretty cheap monthly pricing so it still makes sense for me to keep it active for now.

Also TR lost it's shine with the whole Coach Chad leaving thing imo.
-
• #1692
How does that impact the training/application?

What was the story here? I used to quite like him on their podcast.
-
• #1694
Well now it's a pretty polished product, probably not much. But the brand was always focused on him being the sports science brains behind it - Nate doesn't seem to know his ass from his elbow when it comes to training or sports science.
AI will come for you too.

He left abruptly and it was never discussed. Made clear on one podcast by Nate it wasn't voluntarily.

Trainerday is phone tablet only still I think?
Sure there’s some sort of phone emulator for PC but sounds like a faff.
Turbo training needs to be as fuss free as possible so there’s no barrier to jumping on for half an hour.

This. TR is pretty slick. I like the planning stuff (when I'm actually using it) and the ad hoc stuff and I know it works for me.

Yeah I used it 2/3 times a week for three years or so when I was fitter and found it brilliant. I’ve just never seen the appeal of Zwift over my beloved blue oblongs.

The TR Train Now feature was great for this so you didn't have to follow a plan and could just say what type of session you wanted and for how long

Yes - that had been introduced when I last used it. Seemed to be quite joined up in terms of reading CTL data from TP etc.
Confident I’m never going back to all that nonsense. I don’t even have a head unit when I ride outside these days.
Yeah. I've done couple of years of their Full Volume, then moved down to the Mid Volume and last year was mostly Mid Volume, obviously with other rides outside. I actually emailed them this morning to see if I could pause it. I haven't used it for 2 months and don't plan on doing much for the foreseeable.
I've just entered @skinny El Piri event but presume I will have some other rides in my legs already by then so I'm not bothered about formal training.
