Now, I don't mean to be a minute cryptic dickhead, but I've found some recent clues a little too, erm, not exactly easy, but, erm, unambiguous. Today's is a good example. There's no ambiguity - for someone with a bit of crossword experience - about how words 3 and 4 need to be worked out, nor how words 6, 7 and 8 should be resolved.

I think the best clues leave some doubt about which words are definition, which are mechanics etc, and MC doesn't always manage this.

Perhaps you’ve graduated from minute cryptic or were too good for it at the start? It’s just a bit of fun. Like wordle.

Anyway I take umbrage with today’s clue because there are many things a senior female could be. Not just that.

It’s not a good one.

I feel like that's ok though? As long as the clue obeys all the 'rules', the definition can define a small-ish category of words that you can then test against the mechanics. I'd only have a problem if all three of the definition the mechanics and the pattern/length could equally be two or more answers with no way of choosing between them.

2 under. The 4th word only ever really indicates one thing in clues, and it was pretty quick from there.
