  • Basically I think I need an Omnium type design that will fit us both. Dog and shopping mainly haulage wise.

  • not too much in that segment, which will fit u both..ten07 unicorn family, bicicapace pelican, hase gravit city e, the kemper filibus is no longer available..

  • Such a great infographic

  • there's a pdf with an additional "chart"

Here, we use model groups to describe cargo bike types that have similar characteristics but can be based on different designs.

  • You are both welcome to pop in and test ride an omnium anytime. We always have a small built and ready to ride at Paradise Cycles. We also always have a dropper post with an under the saddle lever kicking around for easy adjustment, but it sounds like your height difference would be too large for most droppers.

Edit: We have had people close to 5 foot on a small before. Stand over isn’t brilliant, but it depends on the person’s confidence.

  • Hoping to do some family cycling holidays in the new year, set up I'm imaging is gravel bike with baby seat for the 2 yr old and cargo with seat for the bags and for big kid and bike if she gets tired (8yr old - 20inch bike - she's killing it cycling but will be great to give her the option to chill) and poss 2yr olds balance bike too.

We are in Sheffield, northern UK and seems like ferry over to Rotterdam seems simplest for a first trip. Anyone got any routes / advice re: this set up? Thinking to limit to 30/ 40 K a day and trip would be max 1.5 weeks......

Some specific Questions I have are:

Can you take full size cargo on Dutch trains?
Do Dutch hotels generally have secure bike parking?
    Any other advice gratefully received!

  • Question for cargo owners - what locks are you using?

Recently got an older Dutch-style cargo that’s going to live locked up out the front of my house & was wondering anyone would recommend. Cheers!

  • When I was living in London my bullitt was locked up with 2 Oxford nemesis chains into 2 Oxford ground force anchors fixed to the wall of my house in my front garden.

Covered the bike with a bikeparka cover and had a door bell cam. Nothing is perfect but the 2 years it was there I never had an issue and felt as secure as was practical.

  • If you’re starting from scratch I’d invest in the new angle grinder resistant locks, the Litelock X1000 or Hiplock D1000. Anything else will just get chopped off with power tools in seconds, it doesn’t matter what it is. Get two of those with some insurance.

  • @Jameo @Gewürzt Cheers both, have one half decent chain & can lock into the ground so will take a look at something angle grinder resistant.

  • Always use 2 locks and lock to something else unmovable or hard to move

  • the Litelock X1000 or Hiplock D1000.

Has anyone with a cargo bike on here got one of these. The D1000 locks great but looks a bit small to get round chunky tyres, frame and furniture. Reluctant to drop that amount of cash to find I can't lock it to half of the bike racks around town.

  • Litelock X3 and always try and get the wheel, don't trust what you lock to!

  • Also worth considering that the angle grinder resistant locks cost as much as a year of Laka insurance, without the peace of mind that comes with insurance.

Can you lock a bike to with a d lock to something that is anywhere near as strong as an angle grinder resistant lock itself? It’s surely the weakest link in every case, which has always put me off. This is not too outrageously priced though https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/abus-granit-super-extreme-2500-d-lock

  • Depends on the value of your bike. My Laka costs me approx £50 a month with no accessories added. Definitely a lot more over a year than I paid for my Litelock.

  • In fact I'd love to know what cargo bike you can insure for £20 a month with Laka? 🤔

  • I have two cargo bikes and a normal bike on Laka Core, I think £8k total for £22 p/m…

    Correction: £20.50

  • How the fuck is that? 😱
My one Omnium cargo ti is insured for less value than that and I was charged £50 this month! 😡

  • I just checked and it's got me down as being on 'Complete'. I certainly don't remember choosing that option when I signed up years ago, so I just switched to Core too! That's 50% saved.😍

Although my one bike is still insured for less than your three and I'm still paying more.🤔

  • Sounds like you have Complete (includes crash and accidental damage) and I have Core, which is just theft.

  • They give you 50% off on extra bikes insured.

  • But your total is still £2000 more than mine and my cap is £26 ish

  • I think the two cargo bikes being e-bikes makes them cheaper. Sounds counter-intuitive but they went down in price when I selected that option.
