It would give you a long list of routes that fit defined parameters. It could be several hundred long, so you could go through them all very quickly. They didn't need to load into a map interface so it was far quicker.
this one works ok-ish in sparsely ridden areas where there aren't many options but, say, round London where there are millions of routes, the old one was a lot more powerful and quicker.
it's the old story of an interface which is really powerful but not super pretty being dumbed down to a whizzy one which has inferior functionality -

I've totally trashed my phone. I've taken the screen off and unplugged the battery while I wait for a replacement screen.
Somehow my Garmin is still uploading rides to Garmin Connect and then Strava. I didn't realise Garmin would upload through wifi, I thought it all had to go through the Garmin Connect app on my phone...

No, I use wifi for all my syncing of routes and rides.
You can use the app and bluetooth and all that shit, but who's got time for that?

What about when you are away / touring, etc? Do you just leave it until you get home? I wouldn't want to be messing around with hotel wifi codes, etc.

Bro, do you even Hotspot?
If I'm away and editing routes (like I was last week) I simply turn on my Hotspot, my Garmin is already setup to use it and it syncs in seconds.
It would only be if I had no data and no wifi available that I'd restort to using Pootooth and the Garmin app.

Oh, yeah, never thought of that!
I use the app syncing as that was the easiest way I found when setting it up first time. Never worked out how to connect it to WiFi, but I guess it's probably not that hard. Agree it wound be simpler to cut out the unnecessary app.

Oh, yeah, never thought of that!
As I keep telling people, it's why I get paid the big bucks/not just a pretty face, etc.
I refused to connect my older ones to anything, so I would always load routes and download rides manually. Eventually I either got over it or the battery life became good enough that I didn't care about using a bit of wifi sync. Side effect is that I need to plug it in less so connectors will last longer.
I think I've used the Garmin app once or twice in the last year. Probably both times was setting up the 1040 (one time after it shat itself). As soon as I have wifi setup I just don't touch the app.

RWGPS have a restore function now for when you save a route, accidentally overwriting a better one.

New Wahoo released https://eu.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-computers/elemnt-ace-buy
No reviews yet, waiting for Rain en GPLama. Might consider it but Karoo 2 is still going. -

How much?
I know I'm poor and out of touch these days but how much! For a bike GPS. No thanks.

DC's just gone up. https://youtu.be/LPbvpFmFKu4
EDIT: after watching this... yeah, it's a bit shit.

• #3438
laggy screen 😂
as much as the Karoo is over engineered for 95% of users at least they didnt reinvent the wheel by making their OS
the hardware spec doesent even come close to an android phone that costs £550
on top of that, compared to Garmin Connect, Wahoo's app/platform is S H I T.
what is wahoo smoking?

Run 101 with tech, don't buy a product in 'hoping there will be future updates'....
So far the review is basically saying the same thing, it is a rushed and too big product.
-
• #3440
will watch the review later, but shame if it is a bit shit as I absolutely hate the UI/UX of using a garmin since I switched after my bolt died
-
• #3441
In their latest Android release RWGPS have fixed the route renaming bug I found.

Anyone else's Garmin failing to sync over wifi from Garmin Connect?
-
• #3443
My 530 will no longer connect to my phone...
-
• #3444
Connect how? Bluetooth? My 1040 gave up talking to my two home routers but worked on my phone's hotpost in Bedford so I don't know if it's a me issue (no passwords have changed, don't block devices) or Garmin intermittent problem.

You are trying to connect on 2.4 GHz band I hope, as last I checked no (zero) Garmin devices work on 5 GHz. Also they probably don't like it if you run 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with the same SSID.
In 2024.

• #3446
No, it's on my 2.4Ghz network and my 5Ghz has a different name. I've run into this problem before so I'm aware of it. Also, it was working fine since I set it up. I've not changed anything.

Yeah now I think you told me about this.

tl;dr: what's the equivalent to a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt but for hiking?
Dumb question maybe but I'm looking to transition from riding to walking, and I want to record my hikes much like I do my rides. The ask is simple (record a GPS track and then sync with my phone to upload to Strava etc) but endless googling has left me none the wiser - the proffered options either seem to be nothing (i.e. hiking is pure and wild and we're rugged wilderness types no tech please) or wildly overcomplicated (segment splits, triathlon features, geocaching, fishing?!) and I feel lost (hah)
Navigation isn't a huge worry cos paper maps but yeah... any ideas? Nearest I've found are either the simpler Garmin watches (Instinct 2S) or the new Etrex SE, but any wisdom would be much appreciated. Picked up an old Suunto watch this weekend to try it out and I like the concept but it's massive on my tiny wrist so will be going back

Any reason why you don't want to use your phone? Press record in Strava and then put it in a pocket that isn't too deeply buried.
Got you. I do the same as @hippy - it's by far my favourite search out of Strava, rwgps and komoot.
What did the old one do?
