righto, i'll peer at it in the light tomorrow. does the fluid, which I assume is for a hydraulic system, also in some way a lubricant for the bearings? is it a total no no to get fluids/oils/wd40 on the belt?

It will be an automatic transmission fluid, so lubricates the pump. What I'm wondering is if the bearings have too much play, so the seal that the pulley shaft has worn so it leaks.
Can't remember if that pump is on an a manual or auto tensioner, or if it is a v belt or ribbed belt. Trying to figure our if the tensioner maybe under tensioned due to a new belt being fitted.
The fluid in there should be bright red.

Hello, is the fluid leaking from the pulley end of the pump? First call would be when was the fluid last changed?
