The new Dyson V8s are really good. Loads of improvements over the earlier ones and they’re really quiet now.
What does ‘packed up’ mean though? Does it just need a new battery?

The batteries are replaceable. Theres a couple of hidden screws.
Alternatively if you have cordless power tools you can replace the Dyson battery with an adapter to use tool batteries and stop dicking about with the useless Dyson ones.

Dyson's business plan is similar to that of printers. Instead of making money on the ink/toner cartridges they make loads on the replacement batteries. (They also make loads on the original purchase too as they're rarely heavily discounted like printers.)
LiPo (and similar technology) batteries have a limited lifespan and the typical usage in a vacuum isn't well suited to them in terms of frequency, power draw, charging cycles, etc.
I'd rather have the slight extra hassle of a corded vacuum cleaner than suffer the hassle/expense of batteries. And, personally, I'd never want to give that twat Dyson any more money.

The Motörhead has gone (umlaut added by phone) it still runs but the spinny bit won’t spin. Battery is as described by hangedup, works for a while on low power but won’t do anything high power.

Motörhead doesn’t suck, it’s true

Dyson is a cunt Dysons are shit.

I’ve found ours to be pretty handy and until it croaked, tbh. If there was a better one that didn’t cost tons I’d be interested.

We got a Samsung Jet something (can’t remember the model, but not one of the top end ones) a few years ago. Still going strong and way better than the Dyson it replaced.

The important part is Dyson is a cunt, the other bit was to fit in with the Musk/Tesla thread, but everyone should get a Henry and they should make Henry cars too.

Look up replacing the battery pack with a Makita one

Not enough nazism.

It sounds like a small drive belt and a new battery will probably revive it…
-
• #124491
That Henry was plenty Nazi enough.
-
• #124492
Given I have loads of Makita cordless kit my next vacuum will be one of theirs.
-
• #124493
How is a Henry vacuum a nazi? Is it the toothbrush moustache?

• #124494
That man is Henry Ford.

• #124495
I did not know anything about Henry and Nazis. I do now. That was a depressing rabbit hole.

Went for a V8 in the end. £199 off John Lewis website seemed decent. Sorry to all those I’ve let down.

Dead to me.
We've got a Vax Blade 4 (the pet version) and it's really decent for the money. The drawbacks are that it feels a bit cheap and the battery doesn't last long so worth buying a spare. Nothing has broken on it after about 4 years of hard use though and it's still really powerful.
