Bizarre question for today. Our outdoor cat who has become an indoor cat has caused issues coming in and out of the house at various random times throughout the day and night. Up until a few weeks ago, we had been lucky enough and she had always done her toilet things outside. Unfortunately she must have got caught short and urinated in the house once or maybe twice - not her fault really.
We have bought a litter tray and granular stuff and she has been using it - oddly without any training. We put it out and she used it - rather unexpected.
So the question, how often should the granular stuff be changed? I'm not sure if it matters but I have no sense of smell at all so smell isn't really an option. -

It depends really on how often she's using it and what type it is. I've found the 'world's best cat litter' as recommended on here clumps very well and I can get away with a full clean every 2-3 weeks. We have two cats which are half in, half out cats.

If you use World's Best, shake the tray to identify big lumps. These are the bits which have soaked up the pee. Throw them in the toilet every couple of days.

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated

Looking for claw proof litter tray liner recommendations please, or a linerless tray sysrem that isn't going to need a scrubbing brush each week.
Thanks.

Had to take Buffin for her second jab this week. Made the tactical blunder of trying to get her in the carrier in a room with hiding places, and she got herself firmly wedged under the bed in a highly defensible position. Had to ring the vet to delay to later in the afternoon.
Lesson learned, I lured her into the bathroom with a bowl full of delicious wet food and then when she'd had her fill it was BAM wrapped in a t-shirt and then straight in that box. She was deeply unhappy about it all and is now scowling at me, whilst occasionally coming over to get head boops.
Bit of a shame that it had to happen today, as she'd started to seem a bit more chilled out in parts of the house that she had previously been v skittish in, and is now back to leaping at her own shadow in the kitchen etc. But at least she's all vaxxed up now and hopefully will forget about the betrayal pretty soon.

This is Moth. She is a habitual torturer of mice, scourge of rats and pigeons, sworn enemy of squirrels, and an accomplished basher of other cats. She's 9 years old, and often forgets to put her tongue away.

This old girl had to go to the vet on Monday for some dental work. After 15 years of great teeth her age means her gums are receding and two upper molars have gone bad so had to come out. She last had a general anaesthetic aged 2, and now she’s a few months shy of 16. She had blood and heart tests and they all came back good so we went ahead with it. It was so bloody nerve-wracking, we spent all of Sunday making a fuss of her just in case, but we took her in at 8.15, though leaving her at the vet was tough.
But all went well and we got the call at 1.30pm that she was fully awake and the surgery had gone well and we could pick her up at 3. The only downer was that the vet found a growth under her tongue. He removed it and just to be sure it’s been sent off to pathology, although the vet said he’s pretty sure it’s non-malignant.
But for now it’s no kibble for 5 days so lots of soup and lick-e-lix. She’s been so affectionate since she got back, we only have to go near her and she starts purring, which is sweet. But I don’t want to have to go through that again in a hurry.

High five. Hope her remaining years go well.

She was pretty non-committal about your kind offer of unlimited garage rats, but I reckon she'd do it. One year when our neighbours were on holiday she killed all of the rats that had nested under their shed, and laid them all out on their lawn. It was a pretty grisly homecoming!

I hope you showed her you were suitably impressed!
As much as I loathe it when one of mine presents a carcass (or worse, some poor critter who requires a mercy killing), I usually try to communicate some appreciation for the gift...

I love her even more.
Hope they thanked the cat for the good work. Or was it a threat...to the neighbours or other rats.
