I signed up to bluesky a week ago when I saw a YouTube short of a twitch streamer saying it was nice and you should go over if you want to meet actual humans again online.
I'm so used to seeing everything be a shit show on social media that seeing people being nice actually makes me suspicious. Fucking insane, online spaces are so broken. Hopefully twitter will burn down.

Graun to stop posting on Twitter:

Now, what would help is websites refusing to link to it as well...

The guardian is 90% twitter links anyway

Happy to say that after over a decade of tweeting I have decamped fully to Bluesky and de-activated my Twitter account.
Because life was so shit under the Tories I'd allowed myself to be dragged into political fights and had lost track of why I was on social media which is primarily for cycling related content. Add to that the fact that it had just become a shitty un-navigable advertising swamp I was engaging less and less.
Happy on Bluesky and I haven't transferred across my twitter following. I have metaphorically left my clothes in a pile on the beach and swam out to sea. Happy to hook up with any LFGSSers on there. -

It’s just going to turn into Truth Social now isn’t it.

truth.social is just a mastodon instance.
Bluesky is its own thing though.

I think @Mickie_Cricket meant in character, not tech platform.

This is very cute.
Can imagine the various corporate copywriters are going to have fun with this.

Spanish paper La Vanguardia and Bundesliga pirates St Pauli FC latest to disengage. Don't want to get carried away, but will be fun if this turns into a flood.

Cautiously hopefully.
I'm reminded by that Facebook film and the point about something being cool with a certain cache.
If leaving twitter is seen as cool, then I think you'll see that critical mass forming.

There's a Bluesky user registration counter. You can watch it climbing. Reminds me of Starship Troopers. Seems to be about +2m per day. https://bsky-users.theo.io/

Wish everyone had fucked it off before the US election rather than after

It still has 500+ million accounts. The right wingers are still there. Losing 15m lefties to Bluesky doesn't change anything.
They're all like that, then you see it's just people posting links to twitter and moaning about it in a really smug way and it gets old real quick.
