  • I think the need has finally arisen. Anyone selling a Brompton child seat or 'foot rests' for infants? 3-4 years, so like 20kg max.

I'm in a crappy situation where I'm dropping my kids off to 4 different schools (which was better than 5 until last month) by car, and even though not far apart - that last leg between Hackney Central and Stamford Hill will be much quicker and more fun if I pull out the Brompton.

  • Anyone selling the front mount light?

  • You can buy the Cat Eye fork crown mount and fit the adapter to the Brompton fork crown mount (used with Brompton dynamos). Only costs a few quid and works well - cheaper than the 'official' while still using OEM parts - win/win.

EDIT: Okay it's a bit more than a few quid now:

Second Edit: Sorry, misread, but the light is just a CatEye AMPP400 with Brompton branding? Can upgrade to the 500 and with the hack above, will cost like 40% less than the official kit.

  • I have used a couple front eye mount and they keep breaking on me. I think it is due to the weight of the 1700 cateye I'm using and how bouncy the roads are here.

  • Which is the part that breaks? The plastic retainer tab?

  • Probably. I don't think the Brompton one will be much better, if it's the plastic bit. Here's my Brompton mount with cateye adapter bolted on.

  • Middle section of metal part of the mount.

  • Does yours curve over the caliper like mine (Brompton) or straight-line (CatEye)? I tried the CatEye one and clearance was an issue - it was workable but contacting the calipers

  • I'm thinking to nick my gf one, or buy this from cycle UK in Greenwich and pay £3.99 for it.

  • This what I had before I got a black version which was not as robust which they broke the same place:

  • Ah, that's the official one. Might be worth testing the Brompton dynamo hack to see if you get on better. If you're around E&C on Thursday, you're welcome to check mine and mount your 1700lm light lol.

  • Spam: I'm selling my M3L is anyone if looking for one: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/400783/#comment17580506

  • Must be pretty light with that set up no?

  • Great colour! Is it a custom re-spray? Very reminiscent of Cannondale Track!

  • Lol. Read the linked thread.

  • It's not light enough for me to note. I just think the carbon and Dura Ace looks good.

  • Yeah, I use to have a Cannondale track that I've always loved.

  • I've only just started really using my Brompton having bought it off a colleague seven years ago. Changed worn chain and rear sprockets today. Front looks a bit worn too. For a bike that's not used much is there a cheap replacement chainset or is 90 quid for a Brompton one the least hassle? Not particularly interested in changing the bb as that seems ok.

  • As above, I have a Brompton, I also have some nice SRAM road cranks. How to make it work?

  • Just fit them. It's a standard ISO/BSA BB.

Depending on exactly what shape your crank is the back of the chainring bolts might hit the chainstay, especially when the triangle is flipped over. Also chainline might be shit.

Expect some compromises or dicking about with spacers.

  • Coolio! I had in my mind they were an odd thread/width, but thinking about it that was my old twenty.

  • Soz too lazy too see/click links

  • You were bang-on correct. Well done sir.

  • Just ordered a cycle to work voucher to get a g line.

    My use case is
Ride to work (3km with occasional extension to 5k when dropping kids off at school by bike)
Family holidays either riding with the kids or wanting to go for a ride on my own.
Riding home/to family events when I can get away with a ride/being an hour late.
Occasional trips into londons famous London, where I can mostly leave bike fully unfolded in the security office at my destination.

Fiver the fold is still small enough to fit in the back of a golf, the ride will be better for the trips I do and longer holiday type rides will be better with the 8spd gears.
