I struggled to enjoy it - it felt a bit hollow and uninspired, and I'm not sure why.

Watched Amelie again last night for a bit of relaxation. I get more out if it everytime I view. One of the best movies ever made.

I've just finished The Descent. I think I saw this when I was a teenager but couldn't remember much of it. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Pretty mindless but tense and gross throughout. Quite a few unexpectedly great shots as well. Worth a watch if you're feeling brainless on a weeknight!

Topical list, I don’t agree with the science.

Not heard of Skinamirink, sounds fun. But yeah, dodgy list.
101 movie deaths list is amazing though, going to see how many i can place.

Skinamarink is great. It's very, very slow though.

That hilarious indeed :))
Absolute batshit crazy horror movie. A nice and original approach to the subject of bullshit society standards, but I admit I had to look away 40% of the time as I'm weak on blood and needles. -

Comment dredge! Watched this last night.
Think the setup was ok, script was shit, dialogue poor, Jake Gyllenhaal surprisingly poor (apart from looking badass, he was good at that) but Dar Salim was great. 3/5 overall.

Just spent a lovely afternoon in the Prince Charles cinema watching Barry Lyndon for the first time. It was very enjoyable!

The Substance is funny in parts but basically listening to a folio artist squeeze watermelon for 2 hours.
I enjoyed the director's previous film, Revenge.

That was the one where she tattoos herself with a heated beer can right?
-
• #21338
That's why the shrimp scene in The Substance reminded me of something else I'd seen! The guy eating the chewy chocolate stuff in Revenge! Doh!

It looks they selected from a very limited list (no Asian movies?) and only measure heartrate.
A follow up study of movies most likely to cause nightmarish moods for a week would be interesting. On a scale of 1 to 10...how lifechanging was Threads? :p
Me : SOBBING NOISES
OK, that's a 10 -

Last looks on prime. Quite a good cast and a reasonably interesting whodunnit but it didn’t really hit the mark for me.

Watched Weird Al on prime last night.
Lost a little bit of impact towards the last 20 mins as things were obviously weird the whole way through but lots of fun. Enjoying Harry Potters IDGAF phase.

He’s done pretty well not to be type cast. The variation in what he’s done since has helped. But he will always be HP 🤓

Daughters of Darkness - 1971
A vampire movie with a vampire that can control people and is wanting virgins and or love...but it's a woman for a change. Some loose plot threads, some so-so acting from some actors but it looks great. The hotel it is filmed in (mostly empty during off-season) also works very well as a location.
The acting of Delphine Seyrig as Erzsébet Báthory is excellent :)
For more female character focused vampire movies: Byzantium / A girl who walks alone at night.

Heretic - Had high hopes but found it pretty underwhelming. Just seemed a bit silly. Hugh Grant just seems to play himself if anything I’ve seen him in

• #21345
Aye the trailer made it all seem a bit seen it all before?
-
• #21346
Yeah very much this

I'm glad you've said this. I was on the fence about seeing it but I'll probably wait until it's streaming.

Filmed out of season in Ostend IIRC. Mark Gatiss is a big fan.

Halfway through Kneecap, great so far.

We finally got to see Joker 2 this afternoon. Still some chaos but generally much calmer and more psychological than the first film. The casting is fabulous and Phoenix is fabulous. Good simple story, well executed plot twists, some of the singing works, some is cringeworthy but can be forgiven . It won’t be the first film to bomb at the box office and with the critics, only to be remembered more kindly down the line.
Saw The Substance - wow!
Hilariously, a bunch of teenagers gate crashed our screening for the final 20min. Reckon they got more than they bargained for!
