I thought those SPD pedals I'm selling were quite reasonably priced...

I had a very bad experience on here with a well regarded member which I didn't bother to write about at the time. This person, let's call them Pippy, bought a couple of saddles off me for very reasonable prices. Not 2 weeks later I happened to be browsing a niche sales forum and saw the same saddles for sale again at a 1000% mark up. In the intervening fortnight they had apparently been marinaded up his, and I quote, "big fat stinky arse" so that they now gave off an odour of "foul Antipodean man-dung". Now, I am no prude but I do think flipping in this way, no matter how much potentially fatal anal dilation is involved, isn't right. Just because there is a market for something doesn't mean that honest vendors like myself should be taken advantage of. One of those saddles came off my late father's bike and I'd assumed that it was going to someone planning a vintage build rather than to be befouled at the hands and rear of a common spiv.
All of which goes to show that reputation isn't always a reliable guide. -

I paid a big premium for those Pippy marinaded saddles, and was extremely disappointed to discover upon receipt, that the items were frankly slathered in what appeared to be Germoline, although it could possibly have been a mixture of Savlon and Anusol.
I submitted a detailed appeal under the trades description act, but this came to nothing and I was left frustrated.

I agree with you, feels like a very double standard

+1
Happens frequently, long time users never get called out by the majority for doing just that.

Personally I dont care about cross posting either from a seasoned user or a n00b.
I wont do it purely because all other places to sell are a fucking ballache compared to here.

£44 including RM Tracked 48 postage for XT pedals seems reasonable to me.

this.
if i sell anything (rare as i'm a hoarder) i'll try here first before going through the ballach bullshittery of ebay.
i'd rather take a bit less money and hopefully be able to help someone out + give a bit of a donation to the forum when something sells.
i'd never ever resort to facebook marketplace, selling or buying. -

should the classifieds be hidden until a user has 11 posts in other parts of the forum or changes their username from default 'user5634673546715471' ?
-
• #5837
I think having a certan amount of other posts on the forum before you can access the classifieds would be a cool idea
-
• #5838
I think this is the way things worked back before the microcosm days and it achieved nothing - just fills the forum up with people posting 'cool' or 'nice' on a bunch of current project threads before they go on to post their overpriced allez in the classifieds.

Perhaps sellers obsessed at "finding a good home" for their unwanted objects should write in bold in their listings TO A GOOD HOME ONLY, NO RESELLERS
You can't dictate what a buyer does with an item once a transaction and a handshake has been done.
I'd personally be overjoyed to know someone might make a profit on something I'd sold for my initial asking price. Pretty monstrous outlook on life to think otherwise. You've both done each other a favour.
Nourish the earth, let matey have his fun, the bike will find itself a "good home" eventually. User456446345🤣45 might need that extra £400, times are tough!
Sticking an ad up on a public forum is like putting something on the table at a car boot sale. First buyer to the table wins the prize. You can't assume "good faith" from whoever that might be, after all they got up at 5am on a Sunday morning for the privilege - or in this case was pressing F5 on their computer keyboard repetitively in pursuit of the next quick flip.
Make the Classifieds section private and vet users if Average Joe getting a bargain is a problem?
You can't install and guarantee a sense of grassroots morality on a public internet marketplace in 2024.

However, in making such glib posts you have some idea as to whether the person concerned is genuinely interested in being a contributor to the forum

yeah, i do get the point.
fairly sure most car boot sales you have to pay an entry fee though. maybe the min post count is like the entry fee?if it's been tried before and didn't work then i guess it's a non-starter anyway.

@psg1ben the no cross posting as I understand it is to keep people engaged with the forum, rather than it being another place where you can sell whatever bikes/bits/clothes, primarily to stop you smashing out ads on here, marketplace, ebay, etc. all at once and then not being around to respond to whatever offers/replies you do get.
If you see bods whether old or new cross posting, call them on it, but I'm assuming those that have been on here awhile, will probably get the benefit of the doubt as they are still engaged with the forum, haven't fucked off and aren't contactable, and still put more into the forum (whatever that may be), than they take out.Classifieds on here is an imperfect place, but its better than most because of the no cross posting, as frustrating as it can be for a new person looking to sell that track bike which they haven't gotten on with, its better than having the place carpet bombed by sales threads by users who don't return or engage with the place.
I don't spend much time in classifieds, so apologies if its changed since last I tried to sell stuff, but sometimes people need to get out of the classifieds and be upset by any number of threads in misc and meaningless.

User amey can now post in classifieds as he has 11 posts

your the 11 posts
I wouldn't say so. But trying it on and getting away with it happens exclusively with these users.
I don't feel comfortable calling out new users when the regulars basically don't follow them.
Community leader lol, maybe they should set an example
