@gbj_tester did some IIRC.
Otherwise BLB or Ridea does the same too.

That isn't right. Is the cable twisting in the holder freely?
Link to a bit that twists

Yeah, they're easy to service.
One set though, the "Danny MacAskill Edition" I can't get the grease port screws out - one is now fucked and the other I didn't budge. Also one of the two didn't have a rubber o-ring or any evidence that it ever had a rubber o-ring. So the QC on these looks shit compared to the original set I bought.
Now I'm going to need to whinge at Crank Bros and try and find a service kit for the o-ring.

I've just noticed tonnes of rips/slashes on one of my tyres, some concerningly deep. Ive got these tyres front and back and the rips are only on the front tyre and only the non-drive-side of it. They are fairly new and very low mileage.
What the hell is going on... poor manufacturing and it's perishing? Some wanker has tried to slash my tyres? As far as I'm aware I don't lean it up against anything sharp on that side... Very odd
This is a kid carrier bike so I think I'm replacing the tyre straight away, keen for it not to reoccur with the next one...
Edit- I do park it in a bike hangar which has a wheel holder, I park it front wheel in the holder. I guess I'll be checking if that somehow has a sharp edge

Did you order it online and cut the box open with box cutters while on large quantities of cocaine?

Who are you to judge me
-
• #7683
No judgement. It's how I open all my delivery items.

I think I am leaning towards vandalism as the explanation? Which is a bit bizarre still

Could it be a fox or something?
-
• #7686
Are they know for tyre slashing? I think unlikely as overnight it lives in one of these hangars... which is probably a hangout for rats or mice but likely fox proof

I've seen cats that are pretty keen on using tyres as a scratching post. That doesn't particularly look like cat scratches though.

Seen similar on perishing tyre with lines 100% aligned with ply, but those aren't, suggesting externally inflicted damage. This time of year best guess would be witch marks.

Could be sharp bits of metal on the rack in that? The repeated lines in the same place is what made me think of someone opening a packet/box but if you're jamming the front tyre into a rack with a bit of welding slag on it or a burr you might get the same thing.
They're in different places? Are they on one or both sides?

Could be sharp bits of metal on the rack in that?
This is what I need to check next
Just on one side of the front tyre. The cuts are as suggested nearly but not 100% aligned with the stripes of the cords(?) under the rubber. Roughly, but not exactly, same angle and length and starting position for all the cuts. Clustered in three patches around the tyre, rather than evenly spaced, but that could just be chance.

That could be the sharp thing 'catching' on the threads under the rubber and being guided on that path. Not all the cuts follow these though which is why I'm thinking the rack. The fact it's on one side makes me think of the rack too. I guess I figured it unlikely to have two sharp things in the same place on both sides of a rack. Anywhere else the bike wheel gets stuck in regularly? This seems most likely currently.

Not that I can imagine
I guess I will be spending lunch break crouching around the bike hangar, carefully caressing the metal parts and seeing if it draws blood
And people say cycling is for perverts

Props to Schwalbe that none of these have resulted in a puncture yet
-
• #7694
Maybe look at the brake, see whether anything contacts tyre when it’s applied like cable end or whatever. Edit, Ignore. Thought rim not disk.

Sounds like most days at my place. It usually draws blood and it's more "rage smashing" than "carefully caressing" but yeah, pro bike mechanic I shall not be.

Not a bad call though - what about mudguard bolts or something? Wrong direction but perhaps if something is sticking out and the wheel has gone in and out of the bike a few times. My money is still on the rack though until we get more info.
-
• #7697
Yeah disc so not the brake. I did consider mudguard stay but don't think it can be that

Still think witch marks. If it was back tyre I’d say check kid isn’t packing spurs on their wellies or toting a sword-cane. If tyre isn’t directional could you flip it to see whether it develops similar damage on a test run? Might be worth a try to save knackering a new tyre if problem persists.

Kid sits up front, so cannot rule out a razor blade glued to Croc situation
Are there alternatives to the Sugino Fumikiri type lockring?
