  • I’ve been experimenting with 650Bs on my caad, for a bit more air between wheel and road. Actually works okay. Not taking over anything too bumpy - just allows me to explore a bit more.

  • Nice - I have the same bike so interested to know how the clearance is with that setup?

  • Changed some parts. Shimano XT brakes and drivetrain with Middleburn crankset.

  • That looks bloody brilliant!

  • Lovely bike! Can i ask you fenders and tire size?

  • Thanks! Tyres 2.2” but closer to 52mm in those narrow rims. Fenders are 60mm. Pretty tight fit, but it works.

  • Oof, that'a a nice one. Brake fitting looks tight

  • probably not worth that but would build up nicely

  • CAAD4 of mine. EAI Godzilla fork, chorus ergos, ultegra derailleurs, etc. etc.

  • I dont suppose anyone has a spare cable guide kit for a 2018 synapse carbon? Looking for CK3568U00OS to be precise. Out of stock in the UK, most reasonable would be to get it from Germany.

  • Does anyone have a sure-fire way of dealing with creaking BB? I know, I know, but damn. I love my CAAD12, it's so close to being all the (road) bike I'll ever need but I can't live with the BB creaking and cracking like the bike is about to split in half.

I have good ceramic bearings in there now, installed by (good?) mechanics on my lbs, which was quiet for the first 500km but now it's a mess. I don't think I can run sleeves because the hydro cable runs through the BB shell, so what can I do? Is the solution to buy BB tools to service it regularly at home? Is there a solution?

@e54 any tips? Can't imagine you riding those beautiful bikes accompanied by the sound of a medieval ratchet.

  • Had no issues with hydro hose through the BB shell with a thread together wheelsmfg BB in my old caad12 and it was creak proof

  • Threaded is the way forward: https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Token-Ninja-PF30A-Bottom-Bracket_237311.htm?
No creaks for me and I’m a porker.

  • From my experience of this I’d advise giving the bike a good clean and once over with some grease and a torque wrench- I have blamed by BB30 bearings for a rear skewer, cassette and seatpost clamp so for.

If there’s no other source of noise and it has to be the BB I would recommend replacing the current BB yourself- take your time and put everything together very carefully, and torque everything up according to the instructions. No one will take as much care of your bike as you will, and if you do everything absolutely correctly and it still creaks then it’s time to bond a sleeve in.

  • Thanks all. Was looking at the wheelsmfg the other day but thought the cable would foul it, great to know.

I did the forensic check recently, cleaned and regreased every bolt and skewer, and torqued seatpost, cockpit, and pedals properly. Still sounds like a matraca

  • Cheers

Just yesterday I swapped the BB on my CAAD12 so happy to give you feedback.

With the old BB i did not notice any creaking - only changed the bearings because they were busted

Otherwise i can pretty much vouch what dammit said

Here are some photos just becoz

  • I was gifted a Synapse carbon 2012 with a slipping seat post and saddle clamp.

The seat post shows some damage to the carbon so should be replaced. I noticed that the thickness of the post seems to be 27.x mm which made me think to use an aluminum round standard seat post.

Obviously I would need a different clamp for the seat post. Is anyone aware of a replacement clamp for round seat post for these bikes?
I have thought about 3D printing some sort of insert and attach to a round post in order to create the D wing shape of the original seat post, but don’t think this is safe.

I don’t want to spent much money at the moment as I haven’t ridden the bike yet. Basically all moving parts are worn and should be replaced once I know it is a keeper.

  • Is it hard to find a new original seatpost?

  • I can't imagine the wrong shape seatpost is going to fix your slipping issues...

  • Appears to be the case yes. Original seatpost is used on 2009-2012 models only.

Haven’t found a shop yet that has the correct one in stock. When there is a price indicated it seems to be about €150 (and not in stock). I find this a bit too much as I do not know if I like the bike or not.

I was/am hoping that there is a cheaper alternative seatpost available somewhere and currently outside my google search bubble.

When bodging something slippage won’t be fixed as PhilDAS points out and I agree.

  • Pics of the damage? I bet it's fine

  • Have you tried fitting it with some carbon assembly/gripper paste? If that doesn't solve it, you could probably "repair" it by clear coating it with some spray lacquer. It's likely that's all that's damaged, not the carbon itself
