How often have you chased them?
-
• #103
I’d really chase that up and persist. They’ll have a returns number so they can ring them up. Hopefully they just forgot.

It's now been over a year that Hub Velo have sat on this...
-
• #105
But have you contacted them?

Good god! In that time Shimano and Madison have introduced an entirely new claims and warranty system.
Do you have a returns number? -

I have an affected Ultegra chainset that I bought secondhand a while back... how willing are bike shops to sort this for random people off the street like me? Is there any incentive for them (from Shimano/the distributor) to take on the hassle?
Probably should get it checked but it's not on a bike I ride that often so haven't done it yet. Any recommendations for shops in SE London that are happy to check it?

Nigel at Sidcup Cycles sorted mine a few months back

Not sure anyone will bother if you don't have proof of purchasing. Even then I'd charge for all time lost unless you're a good customer, shimano doesn't compensate the shop

The shop gets £35 from Shimano for each crank they inspect as referenced in this recent article:
https://road.cc/content/news/bike-shop-claims-shimano-wont-let-it-inspect-cranks-310707
Some of the cranks are many many years old. They won't expect to see proof of purchase. I had a set replaced that I had bought used and had ridden for a couple of years before they failed. Just got my local shop to send them to Madison.

They get £35 credit, and that doesn’t apply to all stock available. It also depends on the type of account you have with Madison.
It’s actually a bit of a pain. Think at one point I had 5 bikes just hanging there for a few months taking up space.Be nice to whomever starts the process for you. It’s tedious and in some cases not worth that credit.

No proof of purchase required, no charge to the customer. Happy to do it for you, but I'm in SW. PM me if you want to arrange.
-
• #113
in that case, would it be easier/ better for the retailer to just take the crankset off the bike and take it in?
-
• #114
Yeah I’d have really appreciated it. I’d even have gone out of my way to pester them for a quick turn around.

Madison heard Mapdec’s podcast and Shimano have banned them from assessing recall chainsets.
Mapdec were returning all chainsets as fail or unsure so every customer got a new chainset. Which, let’s be honest, is the way it should be done.

Get nothing with Shimano Iberia AFAIK, lot worse than Madison

Thanks all and @Harry for the offer.
TBH the cranks look fine, which is why I haven't done anything about it. But since I'm not using the bike much at the moment now might be a good time.Do they need some sign of separation to be considered? ie would it be a waste of time if they look normal?
Mine took about 6 weeks after being sent off by my LBS. Annoyingly the bike was then written off in its first ride after the new cranks were fitted (see "what to do in case of an accident" thread)
