I was curious, and I tried googling this, but not super hard. But I'll ask here: is there a company in London which focuses on 18th century plays?

Went to see A Slice of Eel Pie at the Hen and Chickens. It had the very talented Malcolm Jeffries in it. Well worth popping along to if you get the chance. Very amusing. Clever plot. Great dialogue and characters. And Malcolm’s legs.

Saw Fairview at the Young Vic last night. Amazing, thought-provoking, funny, uncomfortable at times and truly extraordinary. Haven't seen anything like it before - blew me away.

I took Mrs M to see La Cage Aux Folles at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre on Saturday evening.
It was a sultry hot night, set and lighting designs superb, the costumes outrageous, 5 star reviews mostly from the Press, bar a few bitchy comments, but don’t let that put you off.
Some stand out performances, I’ll have to admit mancrush for Taylor Bradshaw one of the Cagalle / Albin’s maid / Georges’ butler
Absolute absurd joy and very camp, the whole premise around social construct and entitled children was as relevant today as it was in 1973
Extended run until 23 September

mrs-ru and one of the offspring are going tomorrow (obv just as the weather breaks...)
Always a nice night out there though. -

agreed, however getting there / leaving is a bit meh, always seems further than it needs to be, perhaps I’m showing my age.
Hopefully the weather holds tomorrow evening

They loved it - but had a couple of delays for massive downpours. Managed to get through the whole thing in the end with a couple of stage drying intermissions.

Great to hear that the show happened and that mrs-ru and offspring enjoyed it.

https://amp.theguardian.com/stage/2024/mar/21/romeo-and-juliet-review-shakespeares-globe
Saw this last night, the review is spot on. Clearly aimed at a younger audience and there were plenty of moments for reflection.
The police tape and CSI crew going about their business in silence after the deadly brawl and closing scene resonated..

I went to see Othello at The Globe recently. I enjoyed it for the most part but found the "let's appeal to a new generation by putting some cops and guns and lambrini in it" angle really irritating. It felt like an elderly person's idea of what would appeal to "the youth". Was Romeo and Juliet less cringey?

Not cringey, but trying to be relevant.
The menace of hooded guys on bikes snatching mobile phones was repeated a few times during the performance.
The narrative from authority figures spoke indifference much reflected in society today,
that despite the heartbreak scene of the bereaved mothers embracing at the end.
I saw a play seen through young innocent eyes.
Speaking to Hayden Mampasi (Romeo) last night this production has been well received as a brave approach here and in Manchester earlier this year. I suspect this is not a new idea, just a reminder how actions can spiral to devastating consequences.
Hayden is from South East London and said it definitely reflected the mood from his neighbourhood and in society.

On a lighter note Nachtland at the young Vic was great entertainment.
I like the stage coming out into the audience which made the performance very immersive.
Not been to the young Vic before and it made a change from Victorian era cramped seating which my bony arse hates. -

That sounds much more interesting. The "young and relevant" aspects of Othello were very tacked on and incongruous, rather than being integral to the production.

I went to see the Stranger Things stage show today. Absolutely incredible. Loved every minute.
If anyone gets the chance to see Cillian Murphy in 'Grief Is The Thing With Feathers' at the Barbican, do.
Not often that something moves me like that, but it's been three weeks since I saw it and I've thought about it every day.
Edit: Seems it's already finished, hope they do another run because it was brilliant
