The guy that co-wrote that book has a website too:

Looks like that's going to be really helpful for someone like me who normally just presses things until he hears something he likes. 😁

Not exactly like for like but I had the Focal Alpha 65s and found them far too much for my small mixing room - too flattering, too bassy, too mid-cut-y. I replaced them with the 8020Ds and found them a lot more flat and reliable

That looks like a lot of fun. I must get my electribe out again, I had almost forgotten that I have it!!

It's awesome. It's very easy to get a loop together. Not sure if/how you could get a full composition together, other than playing it live and muting elements as you go, as it only goes up to 16 bars (I think). How I'm currently using it, the samples I'm selecting are all over the sample banks, so it's hard to keep track of where they are to switch them on or off. I just need to spend more time figuring out the workflow I think. You can upload/record your own samples, so it will be much easier when you have everything you're using for a single pattern on one bank. As you can probably tell, I'm very n00b, but having fun and that's the main thing!

you're not helping! 😅 -

Within the space of about 4 minutes, sampled an amen directly from youtube on my phone into the line-in and got this (attachment) jam going.
This is aspirational! https://youtu.be/YSVpsPLUokg?si=Go9vqgOes4ECRItt

That is awesome. Doing something like that in an old amiga tracker would've taken a good few weeks of solid work!

• #3791
awesome! what else have you got it plugged into?

• #3792
To clarify - not my vid! That's what I'm aspiring to!

hah! sorry, missed that bit!
if you've not got it already (and apologies if it was you that told me about it) there's a great app called amen break generator on android.
might be a good place to sample in some amen breaks fromhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1X3f6WjdHDvQu7D8wlAnhcUgqyAw3JxSg/view?usp=drive_link

Since we're on an amen tip, I uploaded a couple of tracks the other day including this old one

Lovely! Love the Think break breakdown.
What did you use for it? I need to investigate a basic sequencer/DAW to start actually composing arrangements on my own. Logic is scary and I don't have a Mac. Have heard Reaper is good.

Cheers, I'll look into it. I've just been grabbing samples from free packs on Bandcamp and they've been fun to muck about with.

Nice.
Check this forthcoming module out, the brilliantly named Ectocore. I know one of the guys developing it.

Sampling the train conductor
Speaking of CV and GATE though...any recommendations for books on modular synthesis? Like how the fuck do you make it work? 😁
