Stick bearings the freezer for a day or two. Then look up installing motorbike wheel bearings on you tube.

are there any good (ie reliable) commercial waste collection companies in London?

First Mile? Not cheap thoughEdit: not used them for a while so will defer to below

• #123855
I found First Mile absolutely useless, they kept adding mysterious overweight charges that they couldn’t prove, so went with Biffa instead – absolutely fine so far

Today's fun fact:
Biffa is owned by Mr. Biffa. -

Can you just use the old bearings as a drift?

Friend's trying to replace his knicked road bike. Are there any that are entry level and 1x? Had a quick google and seems like everything at a lower price point is 2x9 or even 2x8.
-
• #123859
1x9 or 1x8 is fine just add one of these in 42t, 44t or whatever…

thanks - appreciate the response. Should have mentioned: he just want to buy something OTP, not build anything, nor buy second hand. I've tried to convince him to look at the classifieds on here but he can't be bothered (fair enough).

There's a Biffa depot in Ugley: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gDnSueqLfFbabzpR6

It’s 6 bolts, but I can see the attraction of off the peg. How about a CDA? Comes with 37mm tyres so it’s definitely a road bike.

Oh nice, didn't know about the CDA. Thanks! That's what I'd drop my money on if I were him. Shared!

Call me a busybody, but is it possible to report an entry on the WhatsApp map? I’ve just noticed a women’s refuge named as something derogatory and it feels like the right thing to get it changed if possible.
EDIT: it’s the same on Apple Maps so I guess I’d be dealing with a big beast.
EDIT 2: I have managed to report it.

I need to remove a BSA30 bottom bracket, it's 12 notch but none of the seemingly many BB tools I've accumulated over the years are big enough. Is there a standard size for these? My Google Fu is failing.
-
• #123866
Is there a standard size for these?
No, you pretty much have to buy the tool from whoever made the BB

This might be a middle age thread question but I / we have been agonising over getting critical illness cover. Following advice (two years salary leaning one way or the other depending on what kind of debts you have) means paying upwards of £80 a month for cover, which is basically a lot. I wondered unless you were nhs phobic, worked somewhere very cut-throat or were concerned about your health if this was what everyone does? Yet I feel insuring for a smaller lump sum, with monthly payments that seem more tolerable, makes no sense because I think if we were really stuck we could get the money somewhere else cheaper or borrow it from family. Hurrumph.
-
• #123868
That sounds a really high premium, think ours is a tenner...DM me as can probably give some advice either way.
-
• #123869
Yeah interesting conversation - I don't have any, and basically put all my faith into NHS. But I know from my parents aging and getting ill, they really got a lot of benefit from their many years of paying into private insurance (BUPA I think) when the going got rough. (Health rather than critical care, not the same I know.)

If it really is just about banking a couple months buffer, how long would it take you to do that at £80 pm? Or is CCC more like insurance in that they pay what you need at the time, so it might be considerably more.
-
• #123871
CCC more like insurance
Yes.
You earn £x p/m as a household. One of you can't work and the other become your career, so the insurance covers your loss of income for whatever period.

Odd question. Any recommendations for online jewellers that ship to Australia? I'd like a ring with some initials on for a family member over there.

I used this thread for my Goldtecs. Works fine.
How do I press new bearings into a goldtec track hub without special tools? The old bearings were drifted out with the axle. I’m sure there was a very good fixedgearlondon tutorial for this but I can’t find it
