  • Perfect! Looks like far fewer components than almost everything else as well.
Both fuzzdog and Jed seem to sell a very similar pedal for the same price.
    Who would you go with?

  • Seconding the Red LLama - fuzzy OD with a top end sparkle and a very simple circuit to boot 👍

FuzzDog vs Jed, much of a much. My experience is that FuzzDog replied to any email very quickly while Jed I never got a response from to a fairly simple email, but I'm sure either will be fine. I've ordered from both and the PCBs were very good.

You might want to consider a footswitch daughterboard as well to make the worst bit of the wiring a lot easier!

  • Yeah my preference is with FuzzDog if they both do a similar pedal. Think both of them provide the foot switch daughterboard as a standard on all orders now but with fuzzdog I’d recommend also getting the ribbon connector as that makes the wiring even easier. There’s still some fiddly bits to connect the jacks and 9v but the board to switch is super easy with that.

Also if you want to do anything with the enclosure like painting or just sanding it back make sure you do that before you put everything into it.

  • I've done a few Jed's Peds and they've (nearly all...) turned out great. The Blue Breaker is cheap, easy to build and gives a nice range of sounds.

  • GAK have been trying to sell this for £399 and have just dropped it to £279. Has some cosmetic flaws etc which wouldn’t bother me. Haven’t played one, am in zero rush and was planning to go and try one out but pondering whether to just get it before it goes. (Back story, not played electric for absolutely years and I want to start again - need to go back to basics as I used to just learn songs and solos, never actually ‘learned’ the guitar. I play classical in the same way). I like the idea of a tele thinline or something similarly light and semi-hollow.

  • I recently got into pedal kit building as a distraction from atrocious guitar playing. I’ve used Jed’s peds and another and agreed there’s not much between the kits. While there isn’t an absolute need to go out and buy stuff, I found that a few things made the experience much more fun: a T12 soldering iron with a small chisel tip, a good helping hand (flexible arms not wingnut joints) and a decent magnifier - components are small! Kits supply multi strand wire but I found solid core easier to solder to pcbs.

  • That's a pretty fuckin' cool thinline. Also "cosmetic flaws" = character. Who wants a boxfresh guitar? Not me.

  • Luckily my colleague builds all sorts of weird and wonderful devices at his bench, it’s fully equipped with tools, helping hands, fancy iron and everything else I could possibly need.

  • This keeps coming up on my eBay. Bit of a random one but pretty snazzy imo.
Certainly not something I want/could afford/need but might be of interest to someone.

  • 65 Days Of Static use these and they sound absolutely banging. I would've expected some issues with feedback given the chambering but they don't seem to find it a problem.

Oh also while I'm here, I'm flogging some pedals:

EQD - Acapulco Gold - one-dial doom machine based on Sunn Model T powertube distortion- £80
Strymon - Flint Reverb and Tremolo - all your trem/verb needs in a single pedal - £225

Consider swaps with cash either way - I'm flogging to buy a Source Audio Collider, an HX Stomp, a Black Mass 1312, and various fancy tuners / overdrives, so very up for anything EQD / Walrus / OBNE etc.

  • Hmm thanks @Dooks-Fatberg and @ReekBlefs.

You can still find it online but they don’t do this colour anymore and I like the fret inlays. I’m not desperate for one right now but I’ve only read good things about the Squier CV thinlines and in the world of bikes £279 seems like a bargain.

  • If it's the affinity it's now £245.00 in my browser - practically free! https://www.gak.co.uk/en/squier-affinity-series-telecaster-thinline-olympic-white/974889

  • Looks like it's gone now...

  • Nah it’s a classic vibe not the affinity.

  • It’s still there. It’s actually £399 still on their website, but they’ve dropped it to £279 on eBay. They’ve got two of them - both with different small issues

  • Those issues on both of them look pretty negligible to me. Sounds like a steal.
Not a fan of the inlays personally but it’s a damn pretty guitar.
I wouldn’t say no to a squier thinline strat but don’t think that’s a thing..

If there's an option to make a new guitar, Fender will have done it.

  • Soldering news - 335 harness complete - quite pleased with myself. Had some worrying noise testing it in the shed - but plugged into my interface running off a laptop battery is quiet as a mouse so must be dirty power coming from the house etc. Used some spare jst connectors I had from an RC project to connect the pups.

  • Went with black plastics. I dig it. Will do for now, will spend time faffing with pup height etc and see what it does for the sound.

  • That's very neat work!

  • This one is an American Professional II series, I know there's definitely a thinline Eric Johnson signature available too...

  • I think they look too much - like a bike with all the anodised bolts on

  • Although I do really fancy an acoustasonic one, even though they're also ugly as hell

  • Yep, they’re def over the top, especially that colourway. Maybe one day I’ll swap out the Squier body for an aftermarket thinline. I’d have to sell all my major organs to buy the American professional one.
Black on black would be a bit less garish probably.

  • Agreed. I would love a Fender A/E Precision Bass though...
