Took a tumble at low speed earlier. The pain in my ribs is getting worse, especially when I move.
Do I use heat or ice to reduce swelling and pain
-

Ice for the first 48 hours.
Hope you heal up, ribs are a fucker.

Does anyone else suffer from Restless Legs Syndrome? It’s undiagnosed (for decades) for no reason other than I don’t know what the hell you can expect to do about it, but it’s gotten bad lately and is pretty constant. I have had pain from it in the past, but not experiencing currently. Ready to take any sort of meds that would help. Apparently, according to NHS, a ‘mild opiate’ may help, but I think the constipation would not be worth it.

From memory my mum had it and was on meds as it used to keep her awake at night, my mum had numerous things wrong with her so it was probably a secondary condition to one of myriad issues she had. My nan recently said she has it but it doesn't wake her but used to drive my grandad nuts at night time. Does it keep you awake? I suppose deciding on meds depends on the balance of how much it's affecting you and whether the side effects are worth it.

Yes I think it’s probably a continuous consideration of the balance of things. It doesn’t keep me awake, but I tend to do this thing where I tense up to the point of cramp, and then ease off. Luckily I don’t seem to be going into full cramp much at all. I think I’m getting all sorts of signs that I actually need to RIDE MY DAMN BIKE as it wasn’t like this when I was doing miles. Couple of years now where I’ve basically done nothing from a couple of years of 150+ mile weeks, every week. I miss those days, but life (more kids, work). Bleargh.

Mate of mine has it. Takes magnesium.

Starting to think this groin stain/tear isn't going to go away with just being careful and doing exercises copied off youtube. I'm over 10 weeks in and the pain is still noticeable when not putting much strain on it (getting out of bed) and pretty grim when i do try and use it (squeezing a pillow between knees exercise). It's as high as it can be so guessing sports massage is not an option, time to speak with a physio?

Father in law has it. He's progressed on to being generally restless and pacing around at night, not sure if it's related?

Definitely sounds like adductor - similar symptoms. I couldn’t roll over in bed for months without pain.

Did you get treatment or is yours healing over time with rest?

Thanks dude.

From the brief physio I had, basically do the squeeze the pillow exercise lightly but regularly. I found that riding a bike was manageable (as long as I wasn’t putting big torque in, which would hurt around my lower abs). Once it had healed a bit after about 6-8 weeks, I tentatively started climbing again, and maybe after a month of that I started running again as I could manage it without pain. Looking at my training log, it was basically 12 weeks without running at all. I’ve been back running for about 8 weeks now.
Quite early on I played in a memorial match of football which probably put my recovery back at least a month.
From speaking to others, really try and get healed as much as possible before starting back at anything and when you do go back, go as gently as possible. Physio advised that gentle exercise would help, but big emphasis on the gentle. 5 months after doing it, I’m still trying to be pretty careful, and I’m running with trepidation still.

Thanks man that's really helpful. This one has been tough as i was only a few months clear of a year long lower back issue. I picked this one up doing BJJ and by comparison is much harder to manage as i'm so reliant on the other person not going hard/making any sudden movements. Even a weak back can take an impressive battering but my groin feels like it has zero resilience. 6 weeks in i had thought it was improving but one spar with an over eager training partner was a reality check. Needless to say i'm worse off now than before said incident.
Sounds like i need a proper lay off. Fortunately riding bikes is ok, i don't run so maybe i'll give that a crack. Are you doing any groin flexibility work? I've got a few exercises but can't see any of them helping with my flexibility.

I mean BJJ would have been my absolute worst nightmare for an injury like this tbh. Hard enough to look after it when it’s just me that I’ve got to worry about.
I don’t feel like it’s tight, just that it’s sore when I try and use it - never even considered flexibility stuff, but everyone is different!

Anyone had keyhole surgery to remove a bone spur and regretted it? I have a long term shoulder issue which I can kind of live with but constantly niggles post exercise. The thought of 10 weeks out and then physio is making me reconsider.

I tore my adductor when I was 28. It basically ended my amateur football career, and I haven't kicked a football in anger in the following 16years. If I pass a ball back to kids in the park, it hurts.
I can run (although it will nag with pain after particularly long or hard efforts) and cycling doesn't aggravate it whatsoever.
I had some physio, but rest was the best *fix* ultimately. I battled through a few matches on painkillers, but then when I tore ligaments in my ankle and was forced to rest again I decided to knock it on the head.

If it's really high up, like lower abs rather than immediate groin area then my experience is it takes months, think I was out from climbing for 3-4 months. Couldn't run or jump over a puddle for 3+ as I kept forgetting.

Be careful with it, you can end up needing surgery and losing months. If it's not healing, see a doctor.
