Thanks Andy. Cheers for info. I've got this Mercatone Uno Medeghini Zucchini jersey with Pinarello branding that I guess is from 93 then. Just checked the rider roster that year and see MDVP's dad Adri was on the team then.
I know this era Dario Pegoretti was building Pinarello's for Big Mig at Banesto, would Dario have built exclusively for Banesto or did he work.for other teams?
There is serial number info on frame, anyone kn0w if modern mega corp golf club Pinarello have records of their cool old steel bikes? My experience of Italian builders record keeping is that its iffy.

I have a Viner Stella Professional that I'd like to get back on the road again. First stumbling block is the bottom bracket, for Gipiemme Cranks (although this will probably be replace by Nuovo Record at some point). Need an Italian Threaded 115mm BB - what options do I have? Seems like options for square taper BBs are disappearing, especially for Italian threaded.

Does it also need the 5mm offset, like NR at the time? If so I suspect a period BB or a custom Phil (expensive) are your options.
The taper for Gipiemme isn't ISO, but should hopefully be close enough.

Thanks, unsure about the offset, I'll go and measure the old bb. Should something like a Campag bb from the Nuovo Record era suffice?

That Record News is great!
Eyeballed the old spindle, and one side is definitely longer than the other, so 5mm offset it is. The old bb is weird; no maker markings on it, and the bearings are pressed onto the spindle itself. The lockings are shagged, also. So no chance to re-use any of that.

Are thes 35mm tires?

Back to this combo. Forum opinion was 3:1 for silver spokes, and that was the plan. Until I got the call that theres been a bit of miscommunication between my mate & I, and the hubs are 28h, rims are 32h... :D
These are the new rims. Still silver, or black spokes black nipples with this? Im leaning towards black.

Always silver!!
Quoting myself here

Depends on the rest really.
I personally think silver spokes warrant other silver parts.
Chainrings or cranks, finishing kit. -

I’m not sure if they fixed the issue but try to fit some tyres on those rims before lacing them up. I threw a pair away as it was literally impossible to fit tubeless tyres.

Good shout to try! They are supposed to be from a new batch, and the grove is visibly quite deep. Just fitted some corsas without any issues.
kjlem - fair.
Rodolfo with you on that. I think it will most likely be built up with a force 22 groupset, so thats another nudge towards black I think.kjlem - fair.

What frame they going on?
Would probably go silver unless it’s some sleek carbon thing -
• #132568
Oooo very nice, I would still go silver - it’ll add a nice pop to the Chris Bling
I echo hulsroys sentiment that black spokes make wheels look cheap

silver spokes ! the rims seem to be quite matte and black spokes tend to be glossy so I think it would be too many shades of black

Did a bit of a tidy up/overhaul of the Marin, should be ready for the colder months commuting season.

Got a second hand Nakagawa frame just in time for a 2 week bikepacking trip to south Japan. Liking the down tube shifter and 1” fork so far.
