• A question for experienced car owners. My car got a windscreen chip on a trip earlier this week, quick google said should be OK to drive home with it (wasn't massive by any means) so we did, was all fine when we got home but when I went to look at it today the chip has turned into a crack and clearly I don't want to drive with this. My insurance (admiral) includes windscreen repair/replace with a £115 excess for replacement. My question is really whether this will screw my insurance premium (just renewed last week, so assume a year before the impact is felt) or a chipped windscreen not treated like an accident by the algorithms? Also, was I wrong to drive even with a small chip?

    Thanks!

  • don't know about the premium question but ime fine to drive with a windscreen chip so long as it doesn't obstruct vision.

i've had small chips repaired with the vacuum and glue method in the past, which has worked well.

Edit - just seen the pic - on the passenger side so ok to drive but it has gone past the repairable stage.

  • won't affect your premium. I've had 4 windscreen replacements in the past 6 years with Admiral...
