Also less into the omg its art 3 stars style and more into the honest produce no suit jacket required style.

And our whole budget for two weeks of holidays is probably lower than one menu there.

Been to his places in San Sebastián and Barcelona both were mind blowing meals. But my wife and I love fantastic food. Both meals were in the list of best food we have ever eaten.

The food market off Ramblas is also incredible, for fresh fish, ham, manchego etc and there are lots of little stalls where you can eat there too.

This tapas place is great https://elxampanyet.es/, busy with locals, good food and cava, not £££.

Oh we also love fantastic food. But the kind where the lunch menu is less than 225€.
Just not really our budget.

The caixa forum restaurant is great value if you are in the area (just over the road from the Mies Van der Rohe pavilion) or visiting the galleries. you can also go up on the roof which is worth a look, don’t think it’s advertised but you just find a lift to the top floor and follow the signs.
I visit BCN a lot as a friend lives there but we tend to eat the menu of the day workers lunch outside of the tourist areas and then locally ‘above the diagonal’ but I don’t remember names of restaurants I’m afraid.

Suggestions listed above are pretty decent. Though arguably some have fallen to the tourist watering down. Some might be closed in August.

It did appear a little optimistic! There are some amazing third wave cafes but a coffee and pastry would blow half a days budget. BCN does have some amazing food and culture to enjoy.

Have you been to any of the wine places in Allela up the coast where you get slightly tipsy trying the wines and eating tapas looking out over the vineyards?

Yes, some great spots there and plenty of companies organising decent day trips.

My wine day trips of choice from the city would be:

• The smallest cava producer in Spain’s cava hub - the village of Sant Sadurni. We’ve taken loads of people for a tour and tasting. • Further afield, the wine region of Priorat is incredible but warrants at least a couple of nights stay.

Not sure about the 6 hrs of walking for the first link but will probably do a ramble from the nearby station.
Really looking forward to going back now as Covid and then moving/home renovations mean it’s been far too long.

One of my favourite wine makers Els Vinyerons is around there and I'd love to have a long weekend in the area at some point

Yep! Casa Bonay's hotel bar behind it is a cool vibe Thursday onwards with DJs playing some decent tunes from about 9pm each night.

Yea, you definitely don't want to be walking home after that! Last time we got a taxi home which wasn't too pricey at all.
