• I tried CO2 and the third and biggest canister worked, though i think that had more to do with those being the 2nd-4th times that I’ve ever used C02.

Annoyingly i still need to do the rear wheel so out to the local bike shops i go.

@hippy I’m very curious about this trick

  • FWIW GKs aren't a great tubeless experience when they're new either. It's not your fault. I had a pair of new ones that were ridiculously slack fitting.

  • yeah annoyingly the front won’t seal either side of the valve, I took the bead off, made sure it was clean, put more sealant in, had to use another CO2 to get it to seal again, but still the same thing. LONG.

it’s for my winter fixed bike so i was dreaming of hopefully avoiding all punctures and not have to faff with horizontal track ends and a rear mudguard when i get a puncture

  • Hand sanitiser on the rim and bead then lots of pressure and maybe warm the tyre first.

  • Get some air in and quickly ride the fucker. That usually sorts out any reluctance to seal.

Edit: Where are you btw? I can loan an airshot if you think it'll help.

  • It's pretty easy. There will be tonnes of instructions on youtube or pinkbike or whatever.

  • Did you inflate them with a tube first?

  • Yeah have been riding them with a tube in for weeks, the front is on and popped in to place but there is some bubbling in a small section of the bead near the valve. I’ve got it resting so that the sealant hopefully pools in that place and seals it

They’re super floppy tyres, i think that’s been outwardly addressed in Panaracer’s new version of their Gravelkings

  • Yeah have been riding them with a tube in for weeks,

    Ah fair enough.

  • SE, in Herne Hill, you nearby?

  • Over the hill in Beckenham.

  • They were very easy to get on and off, the bead feeling ‘looser’ than what I’ve come across before

Sounds like you need more rim tape to get more of a snug fit.. check first page, follow the flow chart

  • Permanent inside patching of a sidewall cut - what do people use? Mushroom things? Velox kit? Normal puncture repair kit?

  • There's tubeless specific patch kits, Velox. I've got one but I've not used it yet.

#csb but since they're built for the purpose you're asking about I'd go for right tool for the job kind of thinking.

  • I tried a regular tube patch and glue on the inside of a Schwalbe tyre but the the vulcanising fluid didn't work on it, I have now ordered some more heavy duty cement and those mushrooms to see if that works. Another option could be superglue.

  • Just a bog standard repair patch on the inside, I use the instant Park Tool or Leyzene patches. If its a large cut, sew it up a bit first, then apply patch.

  • Just had a check, not great reviews for the Velox on amazon, might get some mushrooms and see how it goes

  • you need some kind of cement for the mushrooms

  • Also passing Condor tomorrow so might grab this and see if it works

    https://www.condorcycles.com/products/weldtite-tyre-boot-patch-strip?variant=2101485764618

  • I’ve used the mushrooms I linked to with the stuff they came with. Looks the same as standard patch glue.

  • I have used the mega expensive velox kit but you need to take off the vulcanising coating inside so its the wooly before you then use the strong cement and patch . Put it under a chair leg overnight and it should then make your tyre twice the price than what it was!

  • Done maybe 10 or so repairs with regular (Rema) patches, never failed. Use good glue.

  • I've used regular kits a fair few times, give it a bit of a clean and sand inside, keep it at the top until the air pressure has pushed on on hard before any sealant gets near it.

  • Maybe my patches failed because the inside of my tyre is that tan colour instead of black rubber?
    It feels more plasticky.

  • I'm lying, I don't have Velox. I have a Rema Tubeless Patch Kit.

I was thinking of Velox rim tape I used to use.

The Rema kit comes with two tubes of stuff. I probably should learn what they are for. Presumed one for cleaning one is a glue but it was only for emergency use and/or home use.
