Been riding my vagabond a bit recently and am finding it really flexy, especially when carrying luggage. It feels pretty sketchy tbh. It's both front and rear ends that are wobbling. It's the old qr version and am running Hope tech xc wheels with 2.1 MTB tyres. I'm not sure if it's the wheels or the frame. Any vagabond owners experienced the same? It should in theory be capable of carrying loads for off road touring.

Had one in xl , front loaded it with a wald 139 and a Super C on the rear. I never thought it flexy or noodly either. Felt obliged to sell it for work reasons but loved it really. Always thought of it as a drop bar 29er rather than a loaded touree

I have a QR vagabond with 2.1”Vitoria Terrano Dryt tyres I know this is obvious but a drop of 1 psi changes it from rock steady to drifting really wide on corners

I had one (large, older QR model with some cheap MTB wheels built on Shimano hubs and Mach 1 rims) and thought it was a bit flexy around the BB. I swapped it to a Giant Toughroad and I think that feels stiffer and I prefer riding it - feels more like a road bike. However luggage didn't seem to affect my perception of the Vagabond flex - I thought it was the same fully loaded.

Mine's a large. More psi seems to be working, unloaded at least. Will see what it's like with bags My Mason bokeh alu frame is complete opposite - solid, confidence inspiring, and great steering. .

Does anyone know the tyre clearance on an Equilibrium disc 2016 ? Cheers
-
• #1733
2016 I think is what mine is, and I’ve got 30mm tyres plus guards on narrow 19mm open pro rims. Possible depends on the size of the rim, I’ve got 34mm on a croix de Fer on 21mm rims and it’s a bit close for comfort on the chain stays on the equilibrium.

I'm not sure if I've posted my Day One before. If I have, it's not been for a while. I've had this for about a year now I think. I absolutely love it despite the fact that it's heavy, ugly and a mish mash of random parts.
If I was to spend any money on it, I'd like nicer wheels and a nicer rack. Not going to happen any time soon though.

I keep looking at this... and the one in classifieds. I love it and want it for my station bike life. I'm struggling to talk myself out of it...
The one big barrier - back wheel. What are you using here? Looks like it's probs just a standard 120mm hub, but I think these have spacing set to 135mm right? What magic have you done?

I have the same model as the one in the classifieds. DO IT. It's my favourite bike by a mile. I switched to my CDF for commuting duties and duly switched back because it didn't put a smile on my face like the Day One.

I have one (also the same as the frame being offered in the classifieds) and spacing is 135mm as you guessed. Currently using a Surly ultra new hub on mine.

would it be possible to use a 135 cassette wheel with a single speed conversion such as a a gusset 1-er?
could use an allen key QR skewer if a standard QR isn't as secure in a horizontal dropout? -

This is my fear... Hub alone would probs eat up any budget I've got and there's no real hope in waiting around for a second hand one...

I wanna skidderrrrr

sorry, i was thinking SS rather than FG as that's how my charge plug with 135mm spacing is set up.
bolt on cog onto a 6 bolt disc hub?
-
• #1743
Yeah, the rear spacing is 135mm. The axle on this wheel (Miche Pistard) is quite long so all I had to do was add some chunky washers to act as spacers. Really simple and I've not exploded yet!

Yeah, you're probably right about second hand.
I was lucky as one came up on here just as I needed it but it was new, so was nearly full price. -

I have discovered a world of single speed 6 bolt dirt jump hubs that come in 135mm whilst in a boring work meeting - good use of an hour that would have been wasted. I'm doin' it.
Thanks for help and suggestions everyone!

any links?

thought you were looking for fixed rather than singlespeed?
Hopefully I live to tell the tale.
good luck! :D

Thinking of picking up a secondhand Croix de Fer but it comes with some quite basic wheels - the ones marked "SR24".
What are some of the "best" QR disc wheelsets (not 12mm axel) for that sort of bike? Strong enough for touring / a fat guy. Everything seems to be 12mm these days, but that won't fit.
Saw the Shimano WH-RX830 set - Are they decent? Anything else to consider? And has anyone had any good experiences / issues with the original SR24 set?

I have a high latitude from maybe 2014.
A friend is very into riding mountain bikes and assured me I'd love it too but I don't because it's terrifying.
