I only saw the report on the interview on the 6 o’clock news but something wasn’t right.

I think the majority of Republicans in both the House and the Senate are just in it to preserve their own seats. They can see that Trump has almost total control over the party and the base and are just too cowardly to speak out.

It's from something that Spaces does to audio because it's a garbage quality app (it's added a lisp to other Elon cronies in the past), but I'm sure Trump is still absolutely seething about it.

Loose dentures?
This is only internet hear say, but when he similarly tripped over his words as a president there was commenter on Reddit, who claimed to be a dentist, who described it not as dentures, but the result of very expensive dental work. It has left him with a white shiny smile that's pretty good for his age, but it has also left his front teeth a little bit longer than they used to be. His muscle memory has yet to catch up to this, so his tongue sometimes crashes into the teeth when he speaks.

Have we done the helicopter thing?

Are we all honestly surprised that all non-white people look the same to The Donald?
-
• #18409
Well, obviously, they don't, as indeed they don't to anyone. He has done and said plenty of racist things, but this will be a simple case of him confusing two people, as he has well-documented cognitive problems. He also confused E Jean Carroll with Marla Maples, his ex-wife, both of whom are white.

It's just another example of him not being with it.

I think Trump will back down now and the reps will get the same boost the dems got with harris when nikki haley slides into the top spot.

I think Trump will back down now
Hahahaha

• #18412
Can she? Given they have had their nominations or whatever it's called surely it would be Vance stepping up automatically?

but this will be a simple case of him confusing two people
That's not the same thing, Oliver. Not properly recognising a photograph is not the same thing as not remembering who you were with. Trump doesn't mistakenly remember being married to E Jean Carroll. Nobody showed him a picture of Willie Brown and said "Is this the man you were on that helicopter ride with?".
I think Trump will back down now
@tmevans He has never backed down on anything. Not only does nobody in the Republican party have the balls to tell him he should, he has zero party loyalty. There is no sense of honour, or rational assessment of the hard facts, to appeal to even if somebody were to try. Which they're not.
-
• #18414
Yes, both cases of confusing two people, which is all I claimed. Confusing them in different ways, sure, but I wasn't trying to draw a 100% equivalence. He isn't merely not remembering who he was on the helicopter with but stating, as in the other case, a positive identification, and both are wrong.

He has never backed down on anything.
Well. Continuing in this vein, he has of course backed down on plenty of things in his life. You're talking about his political 'career'. He will have backed down many times to his over-dominant father, in failed business deals, quite possibly to organised crime, quite possibly to other instances of coercion. Just mentioning this as the hardman complex must come from somewhere.

The differences between various mental problems is important.
"All insert-ethnic-group people look the same to him." "All people look the same to him" "Oh..."
"All insert-ethnic-group are the same to him, because he doesn't care about any of them" "..."
Not the same.

The differences between various mental problems are important.
Well, yes, they are, but so what? I was making a very minimal claim and I'm not sure how this post relates to that?

I think Trump will back down now
Back down or step down?
This is someone who can simultaneously say two opposing things at the same time (as in has the ability and is allowed to do so unchecked). I cannot see him backing down from anything. Only doubling down.
However, I can imagine him flouncing due to a "rigged election" or some other made up nonsense. Not sure it will happen as it's still a very close contest in which there is still plenty of time for something else to happen that changes everything.
But if he thinks he's definitely going to lose he is absolutely the sort of person who'd bail before defeat.

The Republicans have been preparing to fix this election for the past three years, he's going to trust that they've prepared properly and will dispute the result before the election is even held, and continue to do so long after it has finished if it doesn't go in his favour.

• #18420
Is there any point at which he just starts looking whiney to his base?
-
• #18421
You could ask the same about Jesus.
-
• #18422
I think it might be too late for him to back down isn't it?
Doesn't him and Vance having been nominated by the convention mean he can't back out now?
-
• #18423
he can't back out now
Even with the US's employment laws I'm pretty sure you can't force someone into work.
-
• #18424
Yeah I agree. But I don't think it's inconceivable that he throws his toys out the pram and quits to avoid loosing.
Do he strike you as someone who gives a fuck how much effort others have put into something? He doesn't give a flying fuck about the GOP.

Is there any point at which he just starts looking whiney to his base?
No. His various flaws seem to make him more relatable, in their eyes, bitter resentment of an establishment he feels despises and conspires against him possibly most of all. Some of them are from social groups that the establishment really does neglect, whereas he's only an outcast because he's so noxious. Plenty of rich, entitled and nasty men have been welcomed into U.S. high society over the low bar of not being quite as publicly toxic as Trump, so he has little in common with most of his base. But his petulance seems to resonate with them.
