  • can charge one battery via the other?

As in, do you plug one in and both batteries charge? If so, yes.

  • Ace, thanks, if so it sounds more possible. The Cube dealer I asked said they didn't think it would be possible to retrofit as the dual battery would need an extra charging port drilled in the frame, but looking at the product renders I can't see any extra ports on the 1350 model, unless they didn't bother taking new photos/renders which is quite possible. Can the Powerpack be charged on the bike, would be my next question. It's probably dead easy to remove a Powertube anyway which would make the whole thing kinda moot as they could be charged off the bike separately.

I've email Cube to see if they plan to sell a dual battery kit, as mounting the Powertube would be my only other concern.

Being 4th gen I could potentially use a range extender if none of that will work.

  • I'm not sure about retrofitting, my only experience with dual batteries is with bikes that come with it already installed.
I think we're on the same page but just to make sure:
You can charge both batteries whilst they're attached to the bike using the charging port on only one of the batteries, meaning that you don't have to use a separate charger for each battery. I don't think you can use a full battery like a power pack to charge a not full one (if you wanted to do that for some reason).

Retrofitting seems like quite a lot of work compared to just carrying a second battery and swapping over when required. Are you sure that the effort and expense in the short term will cancel out the hassle of swapping batteries on the move in the longer term?

  • You don't need an extra charging port, just a way to get a cable from the Powerpack bracket to the original battery bracket. See unnecessary yellow circle.

Bosch make a Y-cable so both batteries charge from the same charge port. So, you can either charge both batteries separately off the bike or both batteries simultaneously on the bike.
