  • Quite stylized, but IMO would go nicely with the bearing: Nick whybrow

  • Thanks, not against stylised and his stuff looks great. Guessing long waiting lists? Won't be anywhere near other tattoos so not too bothered about consistency.

  • I don't know actually... a lot of the artists I know who've historically had long waiting lists haven't really ended up back there since covid.

I've not had anything from Nick but my OH has, really nice work

  • The last few tattoos I've got (outside of flash days) have been almost immediate when I've emailed them with waiting list requests.
TBF cancellations and my email landing almost immediately helped with at least 2 of them.
Always worth an email, and if you can go mid-week it's usually less of a wait.

(This is generally speaking, not specific to any studio or artist)

  • The artist that just finished my most recent piece is currently booking for November.

I'd been seeing him for a half day every 3 months over the last 2 years to get it done (all pre-booked), but when I booked the first session (two days back-to-back) the wait was about 5 months.

  • Ink seems all thick and gloopy despite the lid being on.

Presumably not wise to use it?

  • did you give it a good shake before opening?

  • Yes. It's in one big jelly like lump. Weird.

Oh well, more is on the way

  • I have a tattoo appointment booked with Pete Corrie tomorrow (been booked for ages) and my gf just told me she arranged a snorkelling trip this the weekend for my birthday (bed and breakfast can't change dates). It's this massive deep lake/river system 2hr north of Berlin and I am big snorkelling fan (not a euph).

I've swum many times in seas/rivers/lakes with open wounds and never had a problem. Usually the sea because it's so easy to get cut. When I was younger I also swam in the sea with a fresh tattoo as I didn't know any better.

I'm not going to cancel on Pete and I would be liar if I said I wasn't going to go swimming. What's the best way to protect the fresh tattoo. Saniderm? Elastoplast spray on plaster? Just clean it real good after swimming?

I know this is a dumb question because it's really advised against. I just wondered if anyone had a good tip about protecting it. Or am I overthinking the whole thing?

  • I’d go with Saniderm, covered with bandage tape and then smother that with petroleum jelly. Take it all off asap after leaving the water. It’ll be fine. Just don’t tell the tattoo artist ;)

  • Thanks this sounds spot on.
Only issue is that it's hard to find real saniderm at short notice and most of the other stuff contains Nitrile which I recently found out I'm allergic to. None of these saniderm rip offs have ingredient info on Amazon so it's hard to tell. I might just get one anyway. The allergy doesn't kick in until a few hours and I'm not gonna be in the water that long really.

  • Ask your artist for an extra sheet of saniderm just in case.
I don’t use it personally but when my partner had lots of sessions on a sleeve last year the artist was more than happy to dish out extra sheets.

  • I have a feeling he doesn't use them but I will ask for sure.

  • If you can't get saniderm its one or the other in my opinion. Either tattoo or swim. I know it doesn't sound like that's an option, but just saying. Your genuinely putting yourself at risk of infection if you can't keep it 100% water tight.

You also don't just take saniderm off. So you wouldn't put it on just to swim, then take it off. You risk pulling skin off with it. You are supposed to leave it on until it naturally starts to peel and then either pull it off while rinsing it with warm water or just letting it peel off by itself in its entirety.

  • I've used it before and yeah it's a pain to take off. In this circumstance I will indeed be putting it on and then taking it right off, not ideal but the timing is terrible. I'm fairly certain I'll be able to get it watertight cause it's not gonna be a big tattoo and it will be on a pretty flat area near my chest.

Edit. It's a warm lake. I probably won't swim and just enjoy some kayaking. Different when it's the cold Atlantic.

  • Legs looking empty.

Who’s had front / back of ankles / lower leg done?

  • My legs are pretty covered. There's nothing too spicy really if that's what you're asking! Front and back of the knees isn't great but the rest is fine.

  • Yeah it’s pretty much the easiest spot I’ve been tattooed on, even the shin is fine

  • Any suggestions for a black traditional stuff? I’d quite like a galloping horse on my thigh. And perhaps a crow. As you do. Realised I’ve been putting off getting another tat for years due to being skint. But figured I’m not so skint any more, so why not?

  • Worst part of the leg is by FAR the calf muscle IMO (outside of the knee which I wouldn’t consider getting tattooed. I was gobsmacked at how painless the shin was. And the rest was borderline pain free. I haven’t started my left leg because I hated calf so much like ten years ago on my right leg ha.

  • I’m interested in this too, having deleted Instagram last year which is basically where tattoos exist. Not had one since before covid and most of the people who did mine have gone more and more fineline or just very weird

  • Interesting how different people experience it differently! My calf was a walk in the park. I fell asleep for a bit.

  • (I'm not trying to be hard, other parts have hurt looooooads)

  • i will never ever do the back of the knees as all other tats that came close were hurtin so much. rest of the legs were fine so far

  • The back of my knees weren't much fun. A bad combination of painful and twitchy. Unfortunately the back of one of them is half finished and shit so will need covering up at some point.
