Par. Rubbish clue.

It really is. I worry it’ll be like Duolingo, everyone will think they can do it but then they’ll sit at a Guardian cryptic and be like.. wut

I liked today. Took a hint.
2 under.I’ve done the guardian quick cryptic and this is similar levels.
It’s just fun. If you want to wank on about cryptic rebus’s’ then private eye is >>>>> -

1st guess. That was easy. The ones I used to try were the newspaper cryptic crosswords and they had more like full sentence clues and the answers were all kinds of shite that only retirees know the answers to.

This is a pretty wacky one, I’ve never seen a clue like this in my 20 odd years of cryptics
Now the day is over, my issue was that both the clue and the answer both ended in -ess, which is a bit lazy. You'd expect that if the clue was indicating a female suffix like -ess, it would use a different feminine ending, like -ette or -euse.

I initially read it as “word ending with S with another S at the end”, needles(s) / syringes(s), which is what annoyed me. I’m not too happy with the use of syringess which is just not a word. Is “needless”, a female who needles, really a word either?
Needles to say, I still enjoy it and will carry on playing. -
