  • Get those zip off leg trousers, all bases covered. Or kickstart a 3/4 length revival.

  • I've just found the le laboureur jacket and tried it on. It's nice and fits well when I sit down and do office work in it, but if I try to reach up and do stuff (like real work like) it's tight under the armpits.
So if there is anyone about 170cm and <70 kg who wants a quite nice yellow work jacket give me a shout. £30?

Also have a similarly sized denim jacket for £15.

  • I shall dig them both out and give you a shout.

  • Just catching up on this thread and realised that a phenomenon I'd noticed on holiday seemed to be covered. Mooching about in southern Italy, I encountered what my family took to calling the "Hugo". The millennial Englishman stubbornly wearing a linen shirt, tailored shorts and either driving/boat shoes (with those ghastly secret socks) or leather sandals, all in near 40C heat. Why?

  • Sounds like a reasonable outfit. What’s the alternative?

  • Wife beater, flip flops, stellas.

  • That’s what I’ve been wearing since June, in Spain mind. What do you think I should be wearing?

  • What’s the alternative?

  • Seriously tho you're on holiday. Ease up and wear shorts and T-Shirt

  • Why?

It's what they were rocking in London Fields in 2009 and they can't stop, won't stop.

  • I think it's the faux formality when the locals are dressed down. The modern equivalent of pith helmets.

  • Keith Talent never wore linen.

  • I wear linen shirts and 3/4 shorts in hot places, if i have to look slightly smarter then a pair of Richard james Tencel fabric trousers that are a loose cut, a Rapha travel shirt (not sure of the model but i bought 3 of them years ago as they don’t crease and are some kind of breathable lightweight material) topped off with a thin unstructured uniqlo seersucker jacket, or a decent white T and the shirt undone which has a concealed placket and straight hem so it works a jacket
Look a bit like an architect/design history aficionado but at least not like a sweaty tourist.

  • Dare I say it... Pitti

  • 3/4 shorts

    Burn with lots of fire.

Short shorts, white t shirt and flip flops if it's over 35C for me.

Edit to add.. Are you talking about work outfits? I'm talking about holidays.

  • I am talking about holidays. I don’t do beaches/poolside though as it bores the fuck out of me. I like to wander around at look at things.

like to smarten up for the evenings which locals do bother to do in most of Europe if eating out.
Embarrassed about being English so like to blend in.

  • like to blend in

    Same.

  • Do you live in Hackney?

  • How are you not killing white t-shirts with suncream?

  • A shirt - short sleeve or long sleeve seems much more practical than a T-shirt to me. Unbuttoned to the pool, with a vest or buttoned normally.

Linen is a pretty forgiving fabric for travel and the heat

Shorts - either a swim short or a slightly longer but not tight fitting short

Flip flops for the pool perhaps but I’d sooner wear an espadrille. A boat shoe or loafer or leather sandle seems like a good other choice for holiday as something which goes with shorts and trousers.

Maybe I’m just triggered that you described by holiday wardrobe !

  • Cheers!
