  • As well as an oven I had a combo oven fitted and while the microwave in it was excellent I only used the oven bit once as the idea of cleaning the shiny interior and grill element filled me with dread.
Back late one evening I read the manual and after pressing various program buttons I managed to defrost and cook a frozen lasagna and get crispy cheese using the meatloaf setting.
In hindsight I should have saved the money and bought a microwave instead.

  • Im just jealous of all you folks with enough room for double ovens :)

If we'd have had more space in the utility room then it could've been an option. Maybe next time

  • I'm still here looking down on all you integrated double oveners from my Rangemaster perch. It's the best oven I've used outside of a commercial kitchen and I can cook 2 things at different temps and grill another at the same time.

  • There are 4 installs like that and a 90cm gas range and 7 standalone microwaves

  • Could fit a plinth heater.

  • Anyone fixed a Miele dishwasher with persistent f24 error? I have replaced the heater relays (which was an easy swap - but they're not cheap, but cheaper than a replacement dishwasher) and still have the same error - so money wasted and I'm pissed off.

  • Forum approved carbon steel frying pan any suggestions?

  • Your local commercial kitchen shop?

  • Actually I should check out the one quite near. Was being lazy for a few brand names that are trusted

  • Debuyer or mauviel

  • šŸ‘šŸ‘

  • I kitted out my first flat in crystal palace from the one in penge. Enamelled cast iron pot for Ā£10. Couple of Steel frying pans for the same. I think I inherited my saucepans.

Everything lasted me about 15 years including my girlfriend/wife's best attempts at destruction

  • Can anyone recommend an appliance repair service in north london? broken integrated microwave/oven which needs a new magnetron and it's a bit beyond me...

  • Not an 'appliance' per se, but I'm looking to buy a full-length broom with upright dustpan combo, preferably with wooden handles, flip-up dustpan bit, and hangable.

  • I got a Sage InFizz as a brilliant surprise birthday present from my partner. It's fucking great, I'm never drinking still water again. That is all.

  • Weā€™ve got an Aarke. I love it.

  • Now you just need to hook it up to a 6kg pub cylinder

  • Last present the family will ever have ..

  • Iā€™ve come to refer to these devices as a ā€˜Bernhard Langerā€™. It wonā€™t help in an online search, but useful when describing.

  • Digital scales

I had the Heston ones but the top was glass and bowls twice suctioned to the scales which then fell to the floor and smashed.

After less than a year of use kitchenaid ones died.

So last week I got cheap ones from amazon which are terrible, placing the same item on the scales gets wildly varying results.

Who makes decent robust digital kitchen scales?

  • Been using my My Weigh KD-8000 scales for
    about 20 years now.

  • My Heston dual plate one has lasted ages, and has been dropped accidentally quite a few times. Goes through batteries quite quickly though, I think because of the backlit screen.
I donā€™t use the smaller precision scale but much, and have to be careful the bowl doesnā€™t overlap. 10kg in 1g increments.

I also use a sage precision one which I got free with a sage coffee machine. Seems pretty robust, does 0.1g increments up to 3kg.

Canā€™t go too wrong with Salter(sage/heston) for scales imo.

Not a fan of glass tops for food or weight scales.

  • I've had some cheap digital salter scales for probably 20 years now. They work fine and have survived fine.
