  • Fork crown flange is too big, preventing the headset‘s crown race from engaging with the bearing.

Any solutions beside milling down the flange?

  • Ended up being a problem with the crown race, and it’s fixed…

  • These legs are 31.8, should I go up to 34.9 for the production model?

  • First finish the build, then judge the proportions. It's very difficult to assess in this position!

  • This^

  • Also curious; aren't there already a lot of similar kind of frames in the market? What makes this different?

    Geo I guess
Modern head and seattube angles, but taller seattube and headtube, longer wheel base.

Not the bike that you’re gonna be doing sick drops with, but built to roll over and thru all the fun stuff.

  • I'd put a squishy fork on it and swept lower bars and ride er through rocky crap. Looks great.

  • I'd put a squishy fork on it

It’s built around a SID 120 travel fork. The rigid fork is supposed to mimic it at 20% sag.

    ride er through rocky crap

Rocky crap is what we got here, Cape Ann to Cape Cod is basically where the glaciers ended and dropped all their junk.

  • Grade A #SFABB, shit from a beavers butt…

The recent heatwave has dried out some trails that have been underwater due to a beaver dam the last few year. Last picture is a beaver footprint.

  • I knows. I grew up riding CT singletrack every day.

We are somewhat settled in up here in Portsmouth, but it's been a hectic summer and the house wants (doesn't need) more work than we are good for.

A rather frustrating set back is that I've developed an inguinal hernia which has limited my activities and as after next week requires a month of rest.

Managed to put together the start to a shop in the basement.

    Overshare

  • Oh yeah, I should probably pay more attention to who I’m replying to…

Heal up, and we can get some riding in the Fall.

  • Bending things...

  • I was teaching cold forming in class and realised I could probably make an expedition-style bagman like this one, rather than buying it for £40+.....
    What material/gauge are you using?

  • Used here is the original tubing, as I couldn't get it out of the mount.

I bought some 7mm ti rod to use. I'm gonna see if Caradice will sell me just the lower section of the clamp to make another one, but then again this may just work so I'm not 100% sure yet.

  • That's interesting - I have had success removing them from the non-QR clamps but those are button-head external bolts. I haven't tried disassembling a QR clamp yet. Maybe that's why.

Carradice are usually really forthcoming with selling parts though, worth an ask.

  • The bagman was given to me and the lower clamp bolt was sheared off, I couldn't get my bolt extractor to bite into it, so I kind just gave up.

  • Tbh, it's a soft alloy clamp (and not particularly neatly machined) so I imagine once it's stuck, it's stuck for good.

I'm back in order and off restrictions in a couple weeks. Getting this thing back in order as well. When is the group ride?
