He was gone either way.
Contract expires later in the year.
If they win then get out on a high.
If they lost then get out and let someone else have a go. -

Spain totally took back control from that point onwards.
I thought it was Britain's plan to take back control in Europe?
I genuinely think Potter would be a great next step - great and level headed man-management (which has gotten Southgate this far and cemented him as one of England's most successful managers) but actual tactical nous (which Southgate had none of and cost him actual trophies) . He will just need to be bold enough to try and mix things up if and as needed but I could see that working.

This tournament has been so toxic.
It really hasn't. This thread has been though. I've had to avoid it during any matches.

Vaughan Gething has resigned too, coincidence or is he in the running?

It really hasn't.
The constant bashing by pundits/the media in general. It's been non-stop.

Harry Kewell also available. 🏆

I was talking about this with my youngest, who is eleven, on the way to school yesterday. England have made it to two finals in my lifetime. They have also made it to two finals in her lifetime.
I get that Southgate is seen as being too cautious, but he's massively over achieved as England manager and that is worthy of both recognition and respect.

Lot's of naval gazing and accurately describing the failings of the football in the press (they played pretty poorly for the most part. You don't ignore that). I and the people I watched games with had a fun time though. Zero toxicity! Horses for courses.

I have recognition and respect for Southgate. Done a great job. Time for someone else to try and do better with this current and emerging crop of players though.
No need for the FA to reach for any kind of panic button. WC qualifiers for UEFA don't start until March next year.

Fun? Fun?? What is this fun you speak of? This is Ingerlund, my friend.
Canada did pretty well to get to the semis, was funny to see Jesse Marsch get so angry in that game.

It's nuts!
Obvs that means it's coming home (to Canada) in two years. Home advantaged, etc..

He's not doing a great job looking through that telescope TBF.

The fact is that with England, we have never been the best team at any of the competition's Southgate has managed at. We have sometimes been amongst the pre-tournament favourites, but never the favourite and never the best team during the comp either.

Christ, even Ian Dunt has thoughts on Southgate:

If people complain that Southgate is too cautious how is Graham Potter the answer?
His teams are very low scoring.

Not saying he’s available but I reckon Big Ange has a trophy in him..
-
• #171022
He's already come from international stuff though. Can't see him going back to it

Managing Australia is the international equivalent of non-league football.

Oh aye, Big Ange + Kane = GUARANTEED silverware.
