  • Prime doyenne 130 mm stem.

    Did anyone buy one?
Want to swap for a 120?

  • In other news, I see ProBikeKit now lands at EvansCycles

    Fuc

  • I miss wiggle bars. What’s the swap out?

  • Just bought that and the decathlon one.
    Thanks!

  • Where is the best place for consumables nowadays? Brake pads and tyres for dad bike.

  • Where is the best place for consumables nowadays? Brake pads and tyres for dad bike.

Have been using https://hopkinsoncycles.co.uk/ for tyres/chains but https://www.bananaindustries.co.uk/ comes up as a place to dig for bargains, many random.

  • Hopkinson Cycles are pretty reliable. They have a fairly extensive eBay store too.

  • I bought a selection from Decathlon (handily just outside the new Brent Cross West station) last Friday. Some energy fruit bars (look like fruit pastille type consistency) and some protein and recovery bars.

    Yet to try.

  • Funny - my order of the same arrives today!

  • Let's hope they're decent!

  • So, Decathlon bars are decent. Got a mixed pack, didn't really get on with cocoa or "salted" but everything else was good, especially banana. They're just over half the size compared to most bars so you need to eat more. Opening tab on the packets is actually pretty effective for on-bike eating.

Just did the maths though, about £2.5 per bar when adjusted for size, so no cheaper than SIS, Cliff etc

Also good; jelly things. Great for a mid-turbo boost, no sticky fingers or bartape like gels.

  • Decathlon is almost like for like replacement for Wiggle/Lifeline/DHB now for everything.

  • Their carb powder is okay too.
I think it works out marginally cheaper than SiS.
The jellies are good but the bars have too low carb for my preference.

  • I've been using High5 for ages, checked out the Decathlon one but it's 100% fructose or something, rather than glucose-fructose mix

  • Yeah I think that's why it's not the nicest after 120g/L

  • handily just outside the new Brent Cross West station

This is potentially life changing news

  • Wiggle fire-sale surplus, anyone want this super warm men's down jacket? It's a Large, Föhn Men's Macro Synthetic Down Jacket. £45 collected from Greenwich. Never worn, just been sitting in the plastic bag it came in.

  • Largely down to this thread I expect

  • Cutting 500 out of 700 jobs probably helped. (500x20k=10M).

  • Generating income by selling off old stock for a fraction of what you paid for it is really stretching the definition of "profit".

  • As per the trading accounts, Wiggle's heavy discounting, clearance sales and bulk stock sales post-cessation of trading led to total sales of £41.7m between 24 October 2023 and 23 October 2024. When costs — including £15.8m of stock purchases — were factored in, it left Wiggle having made £10.4m profit during the period of its administration

It's not clear to me whether that £15.8m is the cost of the stock they sold off or more stock they bought during the administration period

  • I think it's a quarterly profit riding on the back of quarters of losses.

If all you are doing is selling off old stock purchased in a previous (loss making) quarter and not getting much in then it's pretty easy to turn a profit.
