Looks good, what are the new tyres?
How is the chain tensioned, EBB or magic gear?
-
• #132353
Hoods away from perfection.
Big fan of that.
-
• #132354
pasela's, but I can't help thinking it might be amazing to have a mismatched pair of coloured gravelkings...
the chain is tensioned with an EBB

trp hylix hoods are really long, quite challenging to set for BDHU approval

That looks like a lot of fun!

Yeah they are, they also work perfectly though so I know the conundrum after using the previously pretty much the perfect maintenance free brake.
Just really awkward to use.

This is perfect!

• #132359
thanks, i'd say it's about 85%
the BB seems to be a bit creaky when climbing out of the saddle and the chainline is slightly out.
i'm on the hunt for a 40 or 42 tooth chainring with a bit less offset than the standard apex one. -
• #132360
Get a direct mount 3 bolt chainring with 3mm offset from AliExpress. Will sleeken things up in the process!
-
• #132361
good shout. do you have any links or recommended sellers?
-
• #132362
Just search "3 bolt chainring". There are plenty about, one of them will tickle your fancy. I have some ZRace, Goldix and Zeroing ones. Racework also in the wishlist.

• #132363
Why oh why would they have made a 104bcd crankset where a chainring will fit the outer, but not the inner?

Triple?
-
• #132365
Yes, it is a 104/64 triple, but the same ring that fits in the outermost position doesn’t fit the middle - is this common?
I was just going to use a 2x out with a 64 inner and a bashguard on the outside, but the 2x outer only fits outside

It does seem inevitable. Though I’d probably start with the dremel.
-
• #132368
start with the dremel
I'd start with the file. Safe edge against the flange.

• #132369
That sounds like a good idea!

New project for late summer and fall touring. Campus tr10 with a bombtrack fork of some kind. I hope they will work together. 🤞

Bombtrack Arise 2 forks.
Nice geo, could be used with 650b or 700c.
Only downside is the fork crown is not drill from the front, only from the rear.
Did it myself with a regular drill and plenty of cursing when the tap bit snapped!

• #132372
It’s actually going to be a 26”er with rohloff and silly things. But may need to run it mullet with a 650b to make the front geometry right, will see
-
• #132373
I'll say 26" will be fine, 584 vs 559 is close enough.
-
• #132374
Mockup seems to confirm this (700c with no tire was as close as i could get in the rear.)

My Kinesis GX Race is finally finished (for now). Just went for a really short punt around Beckenham Place Park and it's loads of fun to ride. Not exactly the gnarliest terrain but it just rolled over everything I pointed it at, including some chunky roots and stuff.
Changes/upgrades - different pedals, a bigger cassette (it's 11-28 at the minute which feels a bit heavy), another couple of links for the chain if I can dig some out and eventually hydro brakes. This was cobbled together from parts from my road bike which was cobbled together in the first place. I reckon I'll take my first stab at tubeless as well. I've also got some wholly unnecessary orange Hope bits to chuck on.
