Had Ultegra R8000 with 46/36 and RX rear derailleur for ages and it worked great. XT 11-40 cassette worked well and gave pretty decent range.
Wife has identical setup on a small frame and it still works well.
Seen some R8000 groups going for good prices and looks nicer than GRX.

anyone have experience with a Felt Broam 30?
Eyeing up a gravel bike to replace my aging Allez Elite, and finding something over 60cm and in budget is difficult.

SRAM rival 1X. The old 11 speed with cables. I just love doubletap

Doubletap is great, love how there's no shifting on the brake lever. Planet X were selling mechanical 1x Force and Rival levers and rear mechs for very cheap. Not sure if they still are.

Suntour do an 11-speed 11-36. Works fine

Or buy 2x and mod it to 1x, it's dead easy

Also easy to mod into 12s with ratio conversion kit

I'm running a modded SRAM double tap set with ratio conversion kit to 12sp and a GX eagle derailleur and 10-50 12sp cassette on my gravel bike at the moment. Works well, is low tech and reliable, plus easy to service or mod.
MTB I run 12sp Shimano with a mix of XT, SLX and Deore.
Road bike I run 11sp Ultegra mechanical

This is what I'm thinking

Yeah, I've converted some Force shifters with a Ratio kit. Those SRAM shifters are so simple that it's an easy job.
I swear as well that the shifting quality improved due to the higher quality of the Ratio parts.

It may or may not have existed when i bought the SRAM ones but I'd not bother buying another one. I'm either on the flat and will use 23, 28 or 32T cassettes or I'm not and will just go straight for the 40 or 42T.

Working put the group set for my current build and my parts bin has the following
Grx di2 rear, ulegra di2 front
Slx 11-42 cassette
Non series flat mount calipers
Xt trekking brake levers and xt di2 shifters or R785 brifters (undecided on bars)
Sugino 2x HT crank 44-30.Should be fun. Matching group sets be damned

TBH that's been my experience... the 36 doesn't fix enough problems for daily riding and for times when it does, the 40T is better.

My 'x1 42-42t is fine' gland is flaring up again. I should really put some cream on it.

Poorly composed photos to demonstrate the complete lack of gravel in Norway but plenty of SFAB.

Oh wow
I'm running 11s on everything except MTBs. That's why I've not seen it.
