  • Is that actually scientifically true? I grind both decaff and full caff at the same 1:6 setting on my Feld47 and they both taste nice. I mostly make decaf tbh, and it's never bitter to my tastes.

Maybe I'm under grinding the full caff so following that logic without knowing.

  • I’m using a rancillio rocky on -0.5 if memory serves. So will try it on 0 or 1

  • I drink regular and girlfriend is on the decaf - the decaf needs grinding a lot finer and has done from a couple of different type of beans. Just anecdotal but I'd heard that from others too.

Find it hard putting myself through a Lance video, but might give that one a watch in case anything is actually of use...!

  • I know what you mean, they have loads more detail and nerdiness than videos by the Hoff, but little of the friendliness or humour.

  • For some reason I dug out the V60 earlier instead of the Aeropress. Aaaaah, forgot how much better it is. So much more texture.

  • Not just that, he also knows his hardcore audience is people with chronic upgradeitis looking to be told to splash some cash on shiny new toys and always spins whatever data to the effect of "yeah, this makes a significant difference" even when the numbers show it doesn't. F*** that!

  • Yup, as I've said before, it's very reminiscent of "audiophiles".

  • Really thought I’d nailed the prep today

  • I have a wedding party to go to being held at The Lordship, Lordship Lane, SE22.

I only know the bride and my wife (bridesmaid) and will be making my own way there.
Show starts at 2, so will likely need a couple of hours to entertain myself in this neck of the woods (not a Londoner)
Recommendations for a nice coffee shop that might also do me a bit of cake for elevensies?

  • Boulangerie Jade is just down the road. And next to a great gelato place if it's warm and you fancy posh ice cream.

  • Not great photos, but there was a bit of interest when I brought up home roasting previously. Roasted around 800g of Yirgacheffe for filter and around 400g of some Costa Rican for espresso yesterday. Probably around 90 minutes in total from getting everything out to packing it all away again. 6 x 200g roasts, not the most even roast I've done. But had my first cup this morning (left it a little later than usual to roast and ran out of roasted coffee yesterday afternoon) but the filter is tasting damn lovely.

  • I got at clever dripper as birthday present and I'll admit I wanted to believe the hype - but I was surprised just how good it is.
Maybe I haven't had a truly masterfull V60, but I am really enjoying the coffee coming out of it.
Makes me want to try some light roasts as well.

  • That looks like damn good coffee

  • I also had this issue, until I reset the burrs, it's fine now.

  • Is there anywhere in the Walthamstow area to buy Aeropress filters?
If not does anyone know where I can pick some up?

  • Huck's might have some. If really desperate, pop round to my house and i'll give you a few.

  • Long and short coffee in st James do

  • little shop called Prep on church street in stokey sell them, and v60 filters

  • This is cool! Did you just use your regular oven? I bet the house smelt amazing!

  • I popped some details about the roaster and my experience with it here: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/17429139/

To be honest, the smell isn't great. Certainly nothing like freshly ground coffee. It starts out with a bit of a grassy smell, then an almost bready type smell, before finishing with some general burnt smell as the skin of the beans come off and start to get burned. I do it outdoors these days as the burnt smell would linger for a while in the kitchen.

  • Anyone tried out any of the Xiaomi kitchen scales for your coffee routine?
Fed up with my Salter forcing me to use non-renewable CR3023. I don't know of any kitchen scales that would re-charge via USB C, but with the Xiaomis I can at least keep some re-chargable AA batteries in rotation.

  • I’ve got the salter scales. The battery is annoying.
