Thank you, but these failed politicians are making it far too easy.

Mogg
This specimen is no longer the representative for the 18th century.
-
• #8529
Yep, proud of my fellow constituents for finally ousting that cunt.

I get the logic, but I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror.

Thread name change?
I think the Tories can and will debase themselves more, fall further.
There's still mileage and fun to be had observing their next chaotic phase.
So let's keep the thread title a while longer.

I think the Tories can and will debase themselves more
This kind of works... Just when you think they can't go any lower, they tunnel underneath themselves again.

I think the Tories can and will debase themselves more, fall further.
That's a pretty safe bet, I think. Priti Patel's speech early this morning fired the first shots in the battle to become even more deranged.

There are so many unhinged and embarrassing speeches / interviews from last night it's like Christmas.

Many of them have shown a willingness, when in a hole, to keep digging.

Truss was epic, blaming last night's loss on Labour for leaving the country in such a state 14 years ago.

• #8538
Yes, I loved that. Her delusion knows no bounds.

• #8539
didnt she also blame eu human rights or something too?

I’d like a montage movie of all Rishi’s public food serving appearances, from eat out to help out, to full English breakfasts at the homeless shelter and finishing with the bags of McDonald’s in the middle of the road.
For his short term as PM he did spend a remarkable amount of time working in hospitality. Perhaps something he will be able to put his full attention to now without the shackles of leadership. -

Yes, she didn't mention the previous prime minister though.

In the same sentence.

The worrying thing is - now that there is a vacum for opposition, how will the conservatives grow the party, right wing populist nut jobs would be odds on. This draws the country even further away from the centre ground and Labour will seek to appeal to the right as well (in 4 years time).
One ideal would be to actually achieve a measurable solution to illegal migration in the next 3 years, a tough task on its own. Labour also has to satisfy the left and centre of the country by revolutionising the NHS, growing the economy and becoming a self sufficient energy industry.
I hope Kier has a rabbit in the hat for this one.

measurable solution to illegal migration
Illegal migration is a minor problem, about 25000 people have entered the UK illegally so far this year, and many of those are seeking asylum having come from places like Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Legal migration has increased enormously since we left the EU, as we have an ageing population and lack skilled workers in many areas.
Hopefully we can have a grown up conversation about migration, even with Farage hectoring from the other side of the house, now, because if we want economic growth then attracting immigrants is a key part of achieving that.

Some simple redefinitions solve some of the headlines. Remove overseas M.Sc. students, who are paying substantial sums to study here, from the 'Immigration' figures.
-
• #8547
Yeah, I think not treating everything as a culture war wedge issue would solve a lot of problems quite quickly.
-
• #8548
I think they changed the rules previously requiring a period of continuous membership to be able to vote for a leader

I’m putting this out there now, Jeremy Clarkson to become a (conservative) MP
-

Indeed. I understand the data and I agree with your sentiment.
Illegal migration is not about data, it’s optics. Look how far Rishi pushed the stop the boats agenda, brought in from the right wing.
IMO Labour have to snuff out that fire in order to push a new narrative. Otherwise it will always be thrown at them, it will come back to bite them when Suella is Con leader and scrapping the barrel for headlines.
I bet it’s gonna be Braverman or Mogg
