  • gorgeous, absolute classic

  • Hub update. With the old bearings removed I popped along to Derby Bearings and pushed the boat out at £7.75 plus VAT each for a set of ceramic hybrid bearings. Hopefully will make the hubs super whizzy. Just need to decide on some rims now...

  • I saw this frame in the pictures the liquidators put out as part of the vulture feeding frenzy over the Mercian corpse. Glad you got it back! The last of its kind.

  • I have three sets of hubs to build up.

a set of 32h Miche Primatos
These are a purchase from @teew and due to arrive in the near future. They need refurbing so I thought I might upgrade thhe bearings and put some ridiculou deep section chinese rims on. They can then float around all 4 track bikes as and when

a set of 28h Campag Pista Records
These are a set I refurbeda while ago and I'm still pondering rims. Something silver would be most ppropriate I guess but what I don't know. I built some with Halo Retro rims a few years back and they were lovely so that is an option. I'd also consider some decend CXP 30's or Arayas if I could get them

a set of 32h Suzue Promax discos
These are brand new and were at one time going to have the SA30 Araya polished rims on but I can't get them now. Sommething silver would give me a contrast with the other Suzue/campag rims but what I just don't know.

So lots of options and lots of thinking to do.

Congrats on getting your frame & forks out of that sticky situation!

Are you after tubs or clinchers for the Suzue? I think those Araya SA30 are clinchers, right? I have some 32h Mavic CXP14 NOS doing ... they are clinchers, without machined sidewall. In case they might be of interest and you're looking for a track pair... they make an extremely stiff wheelset, not much fun on cobbles etc.

  • dm'ing you

  • Perfect rim choice IMHO

  • Zen ceramic hybrid bearings pressed in. They seem very 'spinny' in comparison to another set of low mileage Miche hubs I have lying around. All bodes well atm.
I think I'll look to put a set of deep section carbon rims on these when they're finished
