Looking this up, and thinking that is a serious design fuck up.
Might be something to do sooner rather than later, if the design is that bad.

It's one of those things that more common the higher the revs you sit at. Due to the balance shafts spinning at 2x the engine speed. I think they're rated for 14k rpm so unless you're redlining it everywhere at over 7k rpm then the chances of knackering them is fairly slim. But, that being said, I may do it in a year or so. Cam followers is my priority big change ATM (along with a thorough injector service) as the car is on 96k miles and the service history, though annual, does not mention those being done.
