But I am still non the wiser.

So if I don't have a filter under the sink, it tap water (from south west London) or bottled spring water clearing?

It is tap water.

For spring/mineral water, it will be from a groundwater source typically private

Definitive! Maybe not, it may well actually be that its a 50/50 call as there doesn't seem to be either a hive mind consensus not a government or national one.

More fuel to the fire

Without wanting to sound all conspiracy nut nut, I wonder if Thames Water, considering recent events, can be relied upon to publish the correct data.
