  • John Oliver had an episode on this a few years back

  • I am no psychologist but I don't think Trump is losing his marbles at all. Or at least compared with 2016. The 'shark' bit is just completely unfiltered stream of consciousness, starting from a rational point (electric motors are heavier and have shorter range than ICE), but in a context where almost no-one else on Earth would have the ego to consider that appropriate.

It reads pretty similarly to the 'nuclear... my uncle... MIT... good genes' speech back then.

Edit: I also think it could be exacerbated by prescription/other drugs.

  • @BillPascrell Bump stocks were banned after they were used by a psycho
mass shooter to murder 58 people at a concert. Today the republican
supreme court made them legal again.

    Gun nuts in replies.

  • This is one of those horrible cases where the Justices are right in their judgment but the outcome is still mental. Something like this should be passed by lawmakers in the US, in any sensible country a Congress or parliament should be able to pass a law banning something like this (not that they'd be legal in the first place) but sensible is not an adjective I'd use for the US of A.

  • Far from an expert, but from a couple of the videos I watched after the original shooting I'm not sure I see them as markedly more dangerous.

In that NYT article I think it said the Las Vegas shooter had something like 6 loaded rifles in his hotel room?! That's the issue. Not whether there is a mechanism to make it less tiring to pull the trigger.

  • See the firing rate differences in that same article. The shootings using a bump stock have a fire rate disturbingly close to automatic fire, far exceeding semi automatic fire. This makes a huge difference in terms of outcome, when terrorists like the Las Vegas shooter kept multiple weapons on hand in order to avoid spending mere seconds reloading.

  • I still think it's pissing in the wind.

The Las Vegas shooter does not seem typical, and I still think the very fact that he had numerous loaded long range rifles was the issue. Not that he had a stock that increased the rate of fire.

It's mental that you can so easily carry a large number of what are effectively military grade weapons (albeit a single functional downgrade) into a city centre hotel.

  • Maybe you should be allowed the bump stocks but not the guns, win win.

  • People focus on the wrong thing, it’s not guns that kill people, it’s bullets that kill people. Let them keep their guns, ban bullets.

  • This will be an interesting one for the Supreme Court, if it gets that far.

  • Satanic Church are already building their lawsuits.

  • Republican god-botherers have no allegiance to the constitution unless it's convenient.

  • Very much in line with Project 2025.

  • Fox News cut away from Ramblin Sid Rumpo:

    https://x.com/BidensWins/status/1804915684406653174

  • Biden's voice is so weak. His open-mouthed frown when Trump is speaking makes him look like a confused senile 110 year old. Trump's lies just sound better than Biden's truths.

  • Biden has a stuttering issue. He talks funny because he has to work hard to control it.

Too bad people don’t listen to what he says, instead of mocking his mannerisms.

  • How on earth have the Democrats let themselves get into the this position? Biden's handlers ought to be ashamed of themselves.

  • Pretty scary, like there's panic in the dem camp.

  • They need to change candidate now.

  • Nah. They’re completely committed. They’ve blown it. They were warned. They ignored it. The guy is almost certainly still pretty competent. But the conservative media will roast him and the public will lap it up. The “but the other guy lied” narrative won’t cut through the noise.

They had all their eggs in one basket for a second term. Seemed to me there was no thought to bring someone else charismatic through into the limelight in the first term (probably because it’s a fight within the party to be the next cab off the rank). Even Harris seemed to be somewhat sidelined.

Jill Biden is the only one who could get him to step aside. And that’s not going to happen.

  • Replacing Biden at this stage is just complete nonsense, however bad people think his performance was the Democrats would look beyond incompetent if they got rid of him at this stage.

Best they can hope for is a decent performance in the next debates so they can brush it under the carpet.

  • Yeah it’s done.

  • It's been done since forever. Trump will win in November.
