Niiiice - they’re embossed - GRAINÉ translates as ‘grained’ and from the paraboot glossary: ‘Grained calf - This leather is the result of presses that emboss a print on the leather. The result is entirely dependent on the press used.‘
Loads of folks do it, my Crockett and Jones are embossed I’m pretty sure… I think if it says ‘full grain’ then it’s the natural finish…

Quite a few pairs of Trickers in Brixton TK Maxx at the moment.

I've wanted a good pair of engineer boots for years, just never found what I was after. I thought I wanted a pair of Carolinas but looking again recently they are not what I want.
I'd love some Role Clubs but they are eyewateringly expensive. I've found these things (Chinese maybe? Difficult to figure out their provenance) and I quite like them. I've also looked at Wesco and a couple more brands, any other ideas?

& @johnnettles2. Guys, guys! I know they're not practical, it's probably a very silly purchase but I have to go through the motions and do my due diligence.

They’d be good for line dancing 🕺🏿 as those are a bit cowboy.
Are they for styling it up around town or practical usage? -

It does feel very Marlon Brando. Redwing engineers boots?

These are the Role Clubs, US$2000+. Beautiful in every way, so elegant.
Redwings are a tad agricultural in comparison.

I had some I bought in a market in Brooklyn years ago (csb) but I couldn't get on with the heel that felt a lot higher than it looked.

Have you checked out Almost Vintage Style on YouTube?
He gives a few reasons in his latest as to why you generally cannot find cheap and good engineers, compared to lace up boots.

Thanks for the tip. He made me laugh, vintage finance bro, I couldn't take him (or his opinions) very seriously tho' the stuff about proper engineer lasts was very pertinent and the one thing I'm noticing is lacking on the cheaper boots.

Go the Indonesian route. Onderhoud or Briselblack to start with and then go down the Bandung rabbit hole.

Yeah, I've been looking at all those guys but none of the lasts are quite right. Cheapest of the bunch that I like are the Bright Shoemakers CXL Engineer, €595, so still spendy.

The RRL one in suede is brilliant
£130 by Dean at Yorkshire Sole. Which I think is the going rate. He did a fantastic job and recommended adding a rubber(?) sole in between the boot and the new vibram sole as they’re quite a lot thinner than the white soles they come with. Was very glad for the advice. And the service was seriously top notch.
Considering I’ve had the boots for over 10 years, was quite happy to get them altered to make them more wearable for me (the white soles + wet Yorkshire stone pavements or wet grass are a death trap!). And I think it’s smartened them up a bit as well (which is handy, as they’re my “smart” shoes).
